South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) has established a smoke advisory from 8 PM Saturday, October 3 to 8 PM Sunday, October 4.
The Bouquet Fire in the Angeles National Forest has burned 1,000 acres as of 7:20 PM Saturday. Smoke from the Bouquet Fire has primarily stayed well above the surface during the afternoon of October 3 and traveled toward the west due to the Santa Ana winds.
Conditions may change quickly due to fire activity and weather. Download the South Coast AQMD app or visit www.aqmd.gov/AQImap to view current air quality in your neighborhood.
Forecasted Smoke and Air Quality Impacts
- Smoke may impact Santa Clarita Valley, the I-5 corridor, and the Angeles National Forest overnight.
- Impacts are likely to be greatest between 11 PM Saturday and 7 AM Sunday, and may reach Unhealthy or higher Air Quality Index (AQI) levels at times overnight.
- Depending on fire activity, decreased smoke impacts are expected during daytime hours on Sunday.
South Coast AQMD will issue an update if additional information becomes available.
If you are in an area impacted by smoke:
- Limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter.
- Avoid vigorous physical activity.
- Run your air conditioning and/or an air purifier. If possible, do not use swamp coolers or whole house fans that bring in outside air.
- Avoid burning wood in your fireplace or fire pit and minimize sources of indoor air pollution such as candles, incense, pan-frying, and grilling.
- If you must be outside, a properly fit N95 or P100 respirator may provide some protection.
