19-year-old Michelle Littlefield and 18-year-old Brian Lewandowski were returning to Santa Clarita from Disneyland when their car was stuck by a UPS truck that flipped over the center divider into the southbound I-5 lanes north of Triggs Street shortly after midnight.
The UPS truck flipped after the driver, identified by his union as Scott Treadway of Mira Loma, was struck by a racer during a street race that occurred in the northbound lanes of the I-5.
Treadway and Littlefield were pronounced dead at the scene, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Art Marrujo with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Four others were injured.
In addition to being College of the Canyons students, Littlefield and Lewandowski also worked at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.
Stevie Leonard, a friend of Littlefield, described her as “so sweet,” adding that she was studying to become an accountant at College of the Canyons.
Lewandowski is survived by his parents, Jocelyn and Victor Lewandowski, and two brothers. His father is a homicide lieutenant with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
