Valencia High’s Devin Davis finished in a tie for third place in the Major League Baseball Junior Select Home Run Derby at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Davis hit five home runs. The top two home run hitters advanced to the finals of the Junior Select Home Run Derby.

Davis was one of 10 high school baseball players in the home run derby.

In auto racing, Ronnie Davis won the Southwest Tour Trucks race at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

Lance Wilson won the first of the NASCAR Late Models Twin 35s. Brian Richardson won the second twin 35 race.

Brandon Weaver won the INEX Legends race. Terry Pettit won the mini stocks race. Tyler Bannister won the Bandoleros race.

In the World Cup, Germany shut out Argentina, 1-0, in extra time in the championship game.

Mario Gotze scored the game-winner in the 113^th minute.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers added a point guard, but lost one of their big men.

The Lakers traded with the Houston Rockets for Jeremy Lin. The Lakers also got a future first-round and 2015 second-round pick in the deal.

The Lakers sent the rights to center Sergei Lishchuk to the Rockets.

But the Lakers lost Pau Gasol to the Chicago Bulls in free agency. 

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers shut out the visiting San Diego Padres, 1-0. Hyun-Jin Ryu tossed six scoreless innings and struck out 10.

Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 and drove in the only run of the game in the sixth inning.

The Dodgers head into the All Star break with a 54-43 record and in first place in the National League West standings. They are one game ahead of the San Francisco Giants.
