YMCA Hosting Community Campfire
Information on popular Y-Guides program will be available.
On Friday, August 22 at 7pm, the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA will be hosting their annual Y-Guides Community Campfire. This event will take place at the YMCA Summit Park at 26147 McBean Parkway, Admission is free, and the public is invited.
“Each year, YMCA Y-Guides participants host an annual Community Campfire which is attended by YMCA families and members of the community,” said Jenny Warner, the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA’s Youth & Family Director. “The 2008 Community Campfire will consist of traditional campfire songs, skits and family building activities.”
“This will also provide a good opportunity to those who would like to learn more about the Y-Guides and how their K-8 children can become involved with all of the exciting character building activities throughout the year,” she said. “As this event is taking place in the park, please bring your own blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy.”
The YMCA Y-Guides program consists of small groups of parent-child pairs who meet on a consistent basis. Activities such as campouts, events, crafts, outings and volunteering in the community are planned for these group meetings.
Y-Guides participate annually in the Santa Clarita Marathon, Make a Difference Day, River Cleanup and other community volunteer roles.
The goal of Y-Guides is to provide parent-child pairs the opportunity to come together to strengthen their relationship through activities that are designed to be challenging and enjoyable.
In the Y-Guides Program, a parent serves as a guide in their child’s life. Parents lead, direct, supervise, influence, and teach while presenting opportunities for children to explore the world around them. The program focuses on skills, values, habits and fun.
