Wildflower Alert In Santa Clarita
By: Wendy Langhans
I just got back from hiking the Canyon View Loop at Towsley Canyon. The wildflowers are simply spectacular.
So go! Now! This weekend!
For directions and a trail map to Ed Davis Park in Towsley Canyon, link here: http://lamountains.com/parks.asp?parkid=10. It’s a short drive from the Calgrove exit on the I-5. You can park for free outside the gate or in the first parking lot on your right.
Walk up the road towards the Ranger station, cross the bridge and take the Canyon View Loop trailhead to the left. It’s a single track trail, about a ~2 mile loop, with 500 feet elevation gain. The trail will bring you back down through Wiley Canyon to the road.
Ranger Jodi asked me to remind people NOT to pick the flowers. The insects rely on them for food. I also recommend you wear close-toed shoes and bring water.
Trust me on this one. Don’t wait. Go. And take a camera.
You can listen to stories like this every Friday morning at 7:10 a.m. on "The Hike Report", brought to you by your hometown radio station KHTS (AM1220) and by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority.
