Recent burn areas are bracing for a winter storm that could produce flash floods.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch
for the recent burn areas in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los
from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday evening.
With rain expected to last through Wednesday evening and
bring up to three inches of rain, Supervisor Michael Antonovich is encouraging
residents to prepare by utilizing sandbags to deflect runoff and prevent
further property damage.
He is encouraging residents to take precautions and offered
the following suggestions:
· If you live in
an area that is susceptible to flooding, consider leaving if it is safe to do
· Listen to KHTS
AM 1220 and visit hometownstation.com for up to the minute weather conditions.
· If you live
near a stream or channel, be alert for sudden changes in water levels.
· Be aware of
your surroundings. Listen for unusual
sounds, such as breaking trees.
· Use sandbags to
divert runoff and protect buildings.
