Valencia Couple Assaulted By Knife-Wielding Man

Couple walking near college approached by two men, one with a knife.

A couple walking along Valencia Boulevard near College of the Canyons Friday night were approached by two Hispanic men, one of whom brandished a knife.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., the victim and his girlfriend were walking eastbound near the college when they saw the two men. The woman was allowed to pass, but the two men stepped in front of the male victim, stopping him and making demands in Spanish that the victim did not understand.

One of the men brandished a knife, lunging at the victim’s stomach. Fearing for his life, the victim was able to move backwards and run past the two men, escaping.

Deputies found the suspects walking out of the bushes near the college on Rockwell Canyon, but were unable to locate the knife.

The victim identified Joel Martinez, 19, and Wilmer Jiguan, 20, both Newhall residents, as the suspects and the men were booked at the Santa Clarita Valley station on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and attempted robbery. They are both being held on $100,000 bail.
