At 10:30 p.m. Friday night, a large fire broke out in Sylmar, near Veteran's Park, just north of the 210 and I-5 freeways. This fire has been named the Sayre Fire.

Important UPDATES:

The unifed command of the LA County Fire Department, US Forest Service and LA City Fire Department have announced that the Sayre Fire is now 98 percent contained.
Fire activity is minimal south of Placerita
Canyon
. Fire behavior was limited
to a creeping, smoldering ground fire.

Firefighters are continuing to hold and improve constructed
firelines south of PlaceritaCanyon.
Firefighters are patrolling and putting out any hot spots 300 feet inside of
the fire lines. South of Placerita Canyon, the terrain is very steep and
inaccessible.

Current winds 6 mph NW, humidity 15 percent

11,262 acres (17 square miles) burned
Cause is under investigation
Injuries: four minor injuries
Structures destroyed: 487 residences, 1 commercial building
Outbuildings destroyed: 124
