Two Local Men Die In Separate Traffic Rollovers

Speed suspected in both accidents that cost men their lives.

Two men died early Sunday morning when their cars overturned.

Stevenson Ranch resident Antonio Galvan, Jr. died when he was ejected from his Lincoln Navigator at approximately 3 a.m. Galvan had been driving north on the I-5 just south of Roxford Street when he tried to pass a Nissan Pathfinder driven by Sabino Alcala and clipped the vehicle’s fender, which caused him to lose control of the car.

Galvan traveled across traffic to the right shoulder, leaving the freeway and going down the embankment, where his car overturned, ejecting him and causing fatal injuries. He had not been wearing his seat belt. The vehicle went on to strike several cars in the parking lot of a Motel 6 before coming to rest on its roof.

Shortly after, Jesse B. Surber of Canyon Country died when his car overturned in the center divider of the Antelope Valley freeway in Acton.

According to CHP Officer John Lutz, Surber, 22, was driving a 1989 Buick southbound just south of Crown Valley Road at 4:45 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle and veered into the dirt center median.

Surber was alone in the vehicle and was wearing his seat belt. He was declared dead at the scene.
