Transient Takes Swing At Deputy
Rescuer suddenly becomes victim of enraged man.
A sheriff’s deputy trying to help a man he found laying in the wash near Sierra Highway and Sandy Drive Saturday afternoon, suddenly had to defend himself.
The deputy saw the man lying motionless on the ground with a contusion on his forehead and called paramedics. When the deputy tried to wake the man, the man jumped up and began to throw punches at his rescuer, yelling threats and grabbing a wooden plank, which he started swinging at the deputy.
After a short scuffle, the deputy was able to subdue the man. Alfredo Gonzales, a 21-year old transient from Texas, was taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds and booked at the Santa Clarita on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, with bail set at $50,000
