Sky High Sports “Grand Opening”
When:  Tuesday, May 14 from 3-8pm

Fast Frame Valencia “Congressional Art”

Details:  Fast Frame Valencia  is hosting the artwork submissions for the Congressional Art 2013 contest.  Artwork from high school students (grade 9-12) who are residents of the California 25^th District have been accepted for the Congressional Art 2013 contest.  The winner will be selected on Thursday, May 9.  The winning submission will be put on display in the United States Congressional tunnel in Washington, D.C. for visitors to and members of Congress to enjoy.  Read a story about the contest is on the KHTS website.   Fast Frame Valencia welcomes the community to view the artwork.

REP “To Kill A Mockingbird”

Details:  The City of Santa Clarita wants to know what we think.  If you have thoughts on City issues, projects, programs or services, the City needs your input on how to communicate residents.  The City is surveying to learn how residents want to be communicated with, when, where and on what types of issues.  The surveys will be analyzed and used in the creation of a new public participation plan to be prepared later this year, in collaboration with us, the community.  Read a KHTS story on the City’s campaign.  Take a few minutes for an online survey and Tell The City. City of Santa Clarita – “Amgen Tour Of California”

Details:  The City of Santa Clarita is again a part of the Amgen Tour of California.  Amgen Tour of California is America’s most successful cycling race held over eight days.  This cycling road race features elite professional teams and athletes from around the world.  This year’s race brings 16 of the world’s top professional cycling teams to compete in the 750 mile course of California highways and roadways. On Monday, May 13 from 7:30-9pm you can be part of the Viewing Party at Salt Creek Grille.  Monday’s race coverage starts at 8pm.  Tuesday, May 14 the Amgen Tour Stage 3 will end on Magic Mountain Parkway between Citrus and Auto Center Drive. The estimated time of the finish is 3:45pm and will be immediately followed by the presentation of the yellow leader jersey.  Take part in the Lifestyle Festival from 11am-4pm.  Wednesday, May 15 will be the Stage 4 Start on Town Center Drive.  Get autographs form your favorite riders prior to the start of the race sending the racers out of Santa Clarita on the route to Santa Barbara.  More information is available online.

“Stamp Out Hunger”

HMNMH 40^th Annual Drive Safe Golf Classic

Details:  Get ready for a day of golf with the 40^th Annual Drive Safe Golf Classic presented by Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Foundation and Frontier Toyota.  The day of golf will include contest, prizes, food, drinks, auctions, entertainment and more.  There will be a helicopter golf ball drop.  The helicopter will drop 1,800 golf balls on the driving range.  If your ticket matches the one of the 10 closest balls to land nearest the target hold, you will win cash prizes.  The evening brings the dinner, auction and award ceremony.  The day benefits Emergency and Trauma Services at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. College of the Canyons “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue – Music for Band”

Details:  College of the Canyons Symphonic Band will present the concert event “Old, New, Borrowed, Blue – Music for Band”.  This free concert is open to the public.  It will include music by Mozart, Rosini, Holst, Respighi and original compositions by the band’s conductor, Raymond Burkhart.

Thunder On The Lot

Details:  This year marks the 19^th year for Thunder On The Lot.  The event is a huge motorcycle show, custom/classic car show, low rider show, import car show, natural gas vehicles show, green energy exhibit, drifting races, and stunt farm/motorcycle stunt show.  There will be a carnival and over 100 vendors.  On Saturday, the main stage will feature MLC, Jason Scott, Judge Jackson and Great White.  The Car Show Stage will feature L’Insanity, Angeles Band, Jay Gordon & Blues Venom, and Bullfrogg Blues Band with special guest Mo Grundy.  You’ll have a chance at winning a brand new Harley Davidson bike, a $25,000 in-ground swimming pool and much more.  KHTS is selling tickets to Saturday’s Thunder On The Lot by coming into the station or online. Golden Valley High School Band “The International Sonora Show”

Details:  Golden Valley High School Band Boosters are hosting a benefit concert starring Kiko Vargas and The International Sonora Show with an orchestra of professional singers and musicians performing the popular dance music, Cumbia.  Kiko is a supporter of music education and is excited to promote multi-cultural music in Santa Clarita.  Kiko and his band will be performing with the Golden Valley High School band and members of the Hart District Honor Bands.  Proceeds benefit the Hart District Honor Bands.  Information and tickets are available online with KHTS or online with Golden Valley High School band.

Habitat For Humanity “Women’s Empowerment Build”

Details:  Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita is holding the 2013 Women Empowerment Build (WE Build).  Local women will gather to build veteran homes.  The 2013 Chairwoman of the build is Cheri Fleming, owner of Valencia Acura and President-elect of Soroptomist International.  Female family members who are going to receive homes and female community members will come together to work towards a common goal of building for Humanity SF/SCV’s new Habitat for Heroes Veteran community here in Santa Clarita.  Registration includes a t-shirt and pink hard hat for each participant, continental breakfast, sponsor fair, safety briefing, building assignments, build, lunch and speakers, training and competitions.  Special this year will be the honoring of female veterans, widows of the fallen, and those who have persevered despite tragic losses incurred during wartime.  In addition to our speakers, there will be a special WWII Veteran who exemplifies women in the armed forces.  The event will be held off-site from where the homes are being built, but participants will be building elements of the neighborhood that will later go into the 87-home community here in Santa Clarita.  For more information and registration call 818-884-8808 or email bengh@HumanityCA.org.  More information and registration is also available online.  

American Cancer Society “Relay For Life”
When:  Saturday, May 18 through Sunday morning, May 19

Details:  Get ready for the American Cancer Society’s heart-warming event Relay for Life.  It is an overnight community walk where teams take turns walking the track and supporters cheer on the teams. Relay for Life recognizes and celebrates those that are fighting cancer, those that have survived and those that have lost their battle.  The event also recognizes those who give time, love and support. The day includes food, games activities, entertainment and much needed informational booths.  The Opening Ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy kick off at 10am followed by the Survivors Lap where cancer survivors take the first lap, celebrating their victory over cancer.  One of the most memorable parts of the event is the lighting of candles inside personalized bags the Luminaria Ceremony, which takes place after dark to remember those lost to cancer, honor those who have fought cancer in the past, and support those who continue the fight.  The Fight Back Ceremony symbolizes the emotional commitment to fight against cancer.  Learn more or register by calling 298-0886, option 3 or online.

Details:  Teen Life Leadership Training with Alex Urbina is a life altering educational experience focused on self-awareness and leadership development for teens.  The workshop offers direct and powerful exercises where teens get to examine their own viewpoints and identify the self-limitations that get in the way of their maximum potential. Bike To Work Day Challenge

Details:  Ice Station Valencia has the Coolest Camp in Santa Clarita.  Kidtastic runs from June 17-August 9, Monday through Friday.  Kidtastic offers ice skating lessons, crafts and games.  Polar Bears (ages 7-12) and Penguins (ages 4-6) participate in broomball, introduction to speed skating and hockey, play in the snow, and more.  Every Friday, both Penguins and Polar Bears compete in Ice Station Valencia Winter Olympics.  For more information call 661-775-8686 or online.
