The Church On The Way “Soakfest”
When:  Thursday, July 4 from 4-7pm
Where:  The Church On The Way Santa Clarita, 23415 Cinema Drive
Details:  Grab your beach towels.  The Church On The Way Santa Clarita  “Soakfest” is the perfect way to cool down the heat of summer.  This free event features water slides, water balloons, games, music and a free barbeque.  There will be a Toddler Play area and, for those that don’t want to get wet, a Dry area.  The event ends at 7pm which gives you enough time to head on over to the City’s Fireworks Show (see entry below).  More information and directions are available online

Texaco Country Showdown Preliminary Round
When:  Saturday, June 29 starting at 4pm
Where:  Keyboard Galleria Music Center, 21515 Soledad Canyon Road – near to Santa Clarita Lanes and Foster Freeze  
Details:  Keyboard Galleria Music Center  is hosting the preliminary round of the Texaco Country Showdown competition sponsored by KHTS AM-1220.  The preliminary round will feature seven entries playing at least one song, but not more than two.  The top three winners will perform at Concerts in the Park on July 13.  The final winner at Concerts in the Park will then go on to compete in the upcoming regional and hopefully, state and national rounds.  Last year the winner of the national competition round of Texaco Country Showdown was Poor Man’s Poison, a band sponsored by KHTS AM-1220.  The competition at Keyboard Galleria Music Center is free and open to the public.  Read more about the competition on the KHTS website. 

An Evening of Inspirational Music – Sally Klein O’Connor
When:  Saturday, June 29 at 6:15pm
Where:  Private residence, 26860 Canyon End Road, Canyon Country

City of Santa Clarita – 4th of July Celebrations

Details:  The City of Santa Clarita has the entire 4th of July covered with a variety of pure American and Santa Clarita tradition.  The day starts with the Independence Day Classic 5K and 10K at Newhall Park, 24933 Newhall Avenue in Newhall.  The 5K route is fast, flat and paved going out and back along the City of Santa Clarita parade route.  The 10K continues along South Fork trail.  The City’s 4th of July Parade runs from 9am-12pm.  This year’s theme is “Santa Clarita – The Winning Spirit”.  Learn more about the parade online.   The evening brings the City’s 4th of July Fireworks Show.  The show starts at 9:15pm and features a live broadcast of the soundtrack on KHTS AM-1220.  The fireworks are launched from the Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall.  More information is available online.

Action Family Foundation “Keep Me Informed”
When:  Wednesday, June 26 at 7pm
Where:  The Action Family Zone, 20655 Soledad Canyon Road, Unit 25 – Soledad at Ruether
Details: The Action Family Foundation is holding “Keep Me Informed”, a panel and discussion meeting with our local Sheriff’s J-Team.  Some of the topics: under drinking & driving, juvenile records, curfew, trends, hang-outs and drugs. This meeting is designed to educate parents so help them in parenting and staying ahead of their kids. Read more on the KHTS website.     

Power Woman “Latinas With Power”
When:  Wednesday, June 26 from 6-9pm
Where:  Power Woman Business Center, 17960 Sierra Highway, Santa Clarita
Details:  Power Woman Business Center  is holding “Latinas With Power – Secret of Success From Four Powerful Women”.  The event will feature Patricia Gracia, President and Founder of Power Media Group; Dr. Claudia Acosta, President of the Board of Santa Clarita International Programs and Sister Cities; Gloria Mercado Fortine, President of the William S. Heads Up Therapy on Horseback “Tack Sale”
When:  Sunday, June 30 from 5:30-7:30pm
Where:  Heads Up Center, 15842 Iron Canyon Road at Sand Canyon
Details:  Heads Up Therapy on Horseback  is holding a “Tack Sale”.  You’ll find English Saddles, Western Saddles, Australian Saddles  (Stubben, Saddle King) – Some used, some new.  The sale will have English & Western Girths, grooming tools, helmets, saddle pads, halters and men’s Western shirts.  Heads Up Therapy on Horseback provides therapy to combat veterans and children with special needs.   Donations are welcome and can be made on website if you are unable to attend the “Tack Sale”.  Learn more about Heads Up Therapy online

City of Santa Clarita “Let’s Go To The Beach!”
When:  Every Saturday and Sunday now through September 1
Where:  From Santa Clarita to Santa Monica Beach
Details:  The City of Santa Clarita has the “Let’s go to the beach!” program again this summer.  There are Santa Clarita Transit buses that go from four different locations around the valley. Ride to the beach with ease on the City’s comfortable, air-conditioned commuter express buses.  You can bring beach chairs, coolers and even surfboards.  You could make plans to spend Saturday night in Santa Monica then take the bus back the next day.  Bus fares are $3.00 each way for children and adults.  Seniors over age 60 and persons with disabilities pay $1.50 each way and persons with disabilities.  Exact cash or TAP cards only.  Persons under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Unaccompanied minors must bring valid school ID to verify age.  For large group accommodations, please call at least five business days in advance.  More information on routes, pick-up location and more is available by calling 294-1BUS or online.  

Agua Dulce Womens Club “Saloon Night”

Where:  Agua Dulce Women’s Club, 33201 Agua Dulce Canyon Road, Box 7, Agua Dulce
Details:  Come to Agua Dulce Women’s Club “Saloon Night”.  Enjoy live country music by Big Coyote.  The Saloon Gals will serve appetizers and a BBQ dinner. Shots and specialty drinks will be served at Miss Kitty’s Long Branch Saloon or at the Mine Shaft Bar. Try your hand at Poker or Texas Hold’em in the Down On Your Luck card room. Academy Swim Club – Swim Lessons

Details:  Academy Swim Club  has swim lessons for kids of all ages.  The kids learn in a heated pool while parents can watch from an air-conditioned viewing area.  Academy Swim Club has lessons available for small groups, semi-private or private for ages two weeks through adults.  There is ‘open’ swim practice time for all students.  All lessons are guaranteed.  Keep your kids safe around water by signing them up for swim lessons.  More information is available by calling 702-8585 or online.

Summer Night Movies

Details: Summer Night Movies are coming to Santa Clarita.  The first movie of the summer is “Madagascar 3 – Europe’s Most Wanted”.  Outdoor, fun-filled and free summer night movies come to us courtesy of L.A. County’s Department of Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the Friends of Hart Park.  Before the movie there will be music, entertainment and games.  Bring your blankets and/or lawn chairs.  Unleashed animals, smoking and alcohol are prohibited.  Upcoming Movies:  Friday, July 12 “Ice Age 3–Dawn of the Dinosaurs”; Friday, July 26 “Tangled”; Friday, August 2 “How to Train Your Dragon”; Friday, August 16 “The Iron Giant”

Undergrounds Coffeehouse – Arts Underground

Details:  Real Life Church has Undergrounds Coffeehouse designed to be a community space for a variety of events, as well as, being an “all donation” coffee house. Boundaries Simulcast at NorthPark Community Church

Where: NorthPark Community Church, 28310 Kelly Johnson Parkway (near Newhall Ranch Road & Copperhill)
Details:  NorthPark Community Church  will host a Boundaries Simulcast event featuring Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend.  This event is open to the community.  Dr. Cloud and Dr. Townsend wrote the best-selling book “Boundaries: When to Say YES, When to Say NO, To Take Control of Your Life”.  Learn how to take back control of your own life.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at    or on Sunday morning at NorthPark.  Tickets can be purchased at northpark.com or on Sunday mornings at NorthPark. NorthPark is the only location in town to see the Boundaries Simulcast and seating is limited.
