--Make way for the top professional bikers in the country as the “Amgen Tour of California” comes to town Saturday! Santa Clarita hosts the start-line of Stage 7 that will lead bicyclists to Pasadena. This year’s tour might prove even more exciting, as seven-time tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is in the lineup of top professionals battling the 700-mile race that traverses the state of California. The excitement begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Town Center Drive and McBean Parkway.
--Take advantage of a golden opportunity, as the “United States Air Force Band of the Golden West “presents a FREE concert Monday, at the COC Performing Arts Center. This band is back by popular demand, and has achieved acclamations as one of America’s premier musical organizations. Music selections include military marches, jazz and pop arrangements, orchestral transcriptions Broadway excerpts, and patriotic songs.
-- Take the family out to spend an evening at the theatre, and hurry on over to Old Town Newhall, as this weekend is your last chance to catch “High School Musical” at the Canyon Theatre Guild, and “A Streetcar Named Desire” at the Repertory East playhouse.
--See a nationally-acclaimed book come to life before your very eyes, as Literature to Life presents ‘The Kite Runner” 4 p.m., Sunday at the COC Performing Arts Center. This live performance is part of a series of events during College of the Canyons’ Book of the Year Celebration, and is a great opportunity to introduce the child in your life to the joy and magic of literature.
--Ever wondered what goes into a painting, or a fine work of art? Now is your chance to find out, as the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association presents, “60 Minutes with an Artist,” from 2-3 p.m. Sunday. Laura Wambsgans will introduce the first in a series of art lectures that will demonstrate exactly what goes into an oil painting, including materials involved, creative inspiration, and the entire process from beginning to end. A collection of painting equipment and completed paintings will be on-site to enhance the learning experience. This event will be held at the Valencia Library Community Room and is free for people all ages.
