Top Five Things To Do This Weekend, December 12, 2008
This Weekend in Santa Clarita brought to you by our friends at Facey Medical Group;
--Honor the troops in your life at the “3rd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony” in Veterans Plaza in Newhall. Bring a photo of the loved one in your life serving our military and hang it on the tree Friday evening, then come back for carols, refreshments and the lighting of the Christmas tree on Saturday.
--Rock out to a night of live music while helping out needy families in the Santa Clarita Valley. Heart of the Canyons Church presents, “GIVEapalooza,” the 3rd annual benefit concert featuring “Godspeed,” “Teresa James & The Rhythm Tramps,” and special guests, “The Truth,” all congregating for the sake of giving. Proceeds will benefit the Hunger Defense Fund and the SCV Community Wide Holiday Toy Drive, sponsored by the SC Sheriff’s Station.
-- Ready for a white Christmas? Come to The Gentle Barn’s 2nd annual “Winter Wonderland,” Sunday, a day of food, playing in real snow, holiday shopping and playing with the animals. Funds raised will support the foundation’s Violence Prevention program, and the new “Gentle Village.”
--Wouldn’t you like to tell your friends “I conquered the Beast!,”? Well now is your opportunity, at the 2nd Annual “Beast Charity Run/Walk,” Saturday that will benefit the Santa Clarita Food Pantry. Entry fee is $20, and the run/walk leads participants up and down The Beast, which is a dirt-and-gravel fire road beginning at the San Fernando Road park-and-ride. All proceeds will go directly to the Food Pantry, and all contestants will receive an “I conquered The Beast 2008” t-shirt.
--Visit an historical landmark while finishing up (or beginning) that holiday shopping, at the Rancho Camulos National Historic Landmark “Holiday Open House,” Saturday. Enjoy free admission. Holiday snacks and treats, visit the Museum Gift Shop and the gently used book emporium, and find unique treasures at the Antique and Craft market.
And be sure to listen to the “Phil Katz Get The Heck Out Of The House And Do Something Already Calendar Of Events” for more great ways on how to spend your weekends here in Santa Clarita.
You can catch Phil Katz on KHTS Thursdays and Fridays at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 am, and either 20 or 50 minutes past the hour at 3, 4, 5, and 6 pm.
