Three Arrested In Bat Attack Near Valencia High
Suspect yells insult before running away.
Three juveniles were arrested Tuesday afternoon and evening after a 15-year-old Hispanic student was struck in the back of his head by a baseball bat.
The three young men, all white and students at Valencia High School, were arrested and remain in custody at Juvenile Hall. The initial report, issued Tuesday afternoon, was that a 16-year old white male wearing a red bandana, a red shirt and grey Dickie pants was being sought by deputies in the attack, which happened on Newhall Ranch Road near the school.
According to sheriff's Lt. Tom Bryski, the victim was taken to the hospital and treated for a 2-inch laceration to his head. He has since been released from the hospital.
The 16-year old suspect ran toward the wash near Valencia High School, where he allegedly met up with the two other suspects (one 13-year old, one 15 year-old) who switched clothing with him to help him evade capture. When one student was caught in the suspect's clothing, he confessed to deputies that he had made the switch and led them to the 16-year old's home, where a second arrest was made. After talking with that suspect, a third arrest was made Tuesday night.
All three juveniles are suspected of conspiracy in the attack. Bryski said an additional charge of hate crime may be added by the District Attorney because the 16-year old allegedly yelled a racial insult before striking the victim.
