Third Annual Heroin Kills Symposium To Take Place August 28

The City of Santa Clarita will host the third annual Heroin Kills Symposium on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Activities Center located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.  The Symposium is free and open to the public.

The Symposium will provide tools needed to identify signs of abuse and is a great resource for parents to understand heroin and prescriptions drug abuse which are problems affecting families in the Santa Clarita Valley.  Returning to the Heroin Kills Symposium will be a panel of experts including representatives from public health and public safety organizations, schools and experts in treatment, and recovery.  Parents will receive valuable first-hand knowledge on ways to protect themselves and loved ones from the perils of heroin and other drugs.

“Heroin and prescription pill abuse has destroyed far too many Santa Clarita families,” stated Mayor Bob Kellar.  “As a City, we continue to fight back and one of the best things community members can do is to get informed and the purpose of the symposium is to give parents and youth the tools they need to keep their family members safe.”

New to this year’s program is a demonstration, using actual paraphernalia seized in Santa Clarita, showing how drug users hide their habits from their parents. Also, there will be a presentation showing the shocking reality of what teens are seeing and posting on social media.
