    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 30, 2014

    The Hart football team moved up a couple spots in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division poll. The Valencia football team held steady.

    Hart is ranked No. 6 after an impressive, 57-35, win over Santiago Corona on Friday night. Hart has won three games in a row and is 3-2.

    Valencia is No. 4 after shutting out Santa Monica, 35-0. The Vikings are 3-1.

    Tesoro is the No. 1 team in the West Valley Division.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 29, 2014

    The Valencia football team shut out Santa Monica on the road, 35-0, and improved to 3-1.

    Jay Jay Wilson scored two rushing touchdowns for Valencia, the No. 4 team in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division.

    Valencia quarterback Cole Parkinson threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

    In other action in the Foothill League, the Hart football team beat Santiago Corona, 57-35, scoring 26 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

    The West Ranch football team takes on Oxnard, one of the top teams in the CIF Southern Section Western Division, tonight at Valencia High School.

    Oxnard is ranked No. 7 in the Western Division and is coming off a 35-28, come-from-behind win over Buena. Oxnard is 3-1.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 25, 2014

    Karis Frankian from The Master’s College was selected as the NAIA runner of the week.

    Frankian, a Saugus High graduate, won the women’s 5K race at The Mustang Challenge at Central Park over the weeked. She completed the course in 17 minutes, 53.3 seconds and led her team to a third place finish in the meet.

    The Master’s College women’s cross country team is ranked No. 17 in the NAIA.

    Saugus Football Team Names Boy With Muscular Dystrophy Honorary Player

    A Saugus Spartan football team introduced an 8-year-old Santa Clarita boy with a progressive muscle degenerative disease as their honorary 21st player, family members announced Wednesday.

    Peyton Marquez, a third grader at Albert Einstein Academy who was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy at the age of 6, will join the Saugus Spartan Bantam Silver team on the field in his mobility scooter at Thursday’s practice and be named co-captain at Saturday’s game.

    The West Ranch boys won the first Foothill League cross country meet of the season, edging Saugus with its sixth runner at Central Park.

    The two teams tied with 46 points. But West Ranch’s sixth runner finished in 20th place. Saugus’s sixth runner was 24th.

    Ryan Tate from Saugus won the race in 15 minutes, 50.28 seconds. Caleb McClain from Canyon was second. A pair of runners from West Ranch followed. Tucker Welker was third and Ryan Painter was fourth.

    The Valencia and Hart football teams won on Friday night. The Indians moved up a spot in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division poll. The Vikings dropped a peg.

    Valencia beat Highland, 49-12, but fell to No. 4 in the West Valley Division.

    Hart crushed Muir, 40-7, and moved up a spot to No. 8.

    Tesoro is the No. 1 team in the West Valley Division.

    The Canyon football team beat Burbank, 35-21, and won its second game in a row.

    Canyon running back Myron McAfee rushed for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

    Canyon improved to 2-2. Burbank lost for the first time this season and dropped to 2-1.

    Valencia and Hart won their football games on Friday night.

    Saugus and West Ranch lost their games.

    The Canyon football team will look to even its record against Burbank tonight.

    The Cowboys won their first game of the season last week against Eastside.

    Burbank is 2-0 and coming off a 15-14 win over Bell.

    The Saugus boys and girls cross country teams are entered in the Woodbridge Invitational at Great Park in Irvine this weekend.

    The Saugus boys and girls teams are ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 polls.

    No school has won both the boys and girls sweepstakes races since 2003.
