Gilchrist Farm Entertains With Horse Parade, Kids’ Activities

Local, family-owned Gilchrist Farm in Saugus welcomed the community to the family parade of horses, a holiday tradition for the Gilchrists, as well as a myriad of activities for kids. “We’ve decked out the horses every year -- this is the first year we’ve opened it up to the public,” said Monica Gilchrist, of the decorative equine parade. “It’s so exciting to be able to share the farm and the festivities with other families.” Gilchrist Farm has helped fill a void left by the recent closing of Lombardi Ranch, providing games and activities such as candle-making, doll-making, pinecone-decorating and a bevy of food offerings. The Guide Dogs of America, for example, brought handmade caramels -- not to compete, however, with the handmade tamales made from the farm’s own custom-fed pork. Activities will be taking place throughout the winter, and starting in the middle of January, every Saturday at the farm, Gilchrist will offer pony rides, a petting zoo and wagon rides.
