    Saugus High’s Abbey Weitzeil is in Australia as part of the United States national swim team for the Pan Pacific Championships.

    She finished in fourth place in the 100-meter freestyle at the US Swim Championships in Irvine to earn a spot on the national team.

    Hart High graduate Anthony Ervin broke a 13-year drought at the US Swim Championships in Irvine.

    Ervin won the 50-yard freestyle, upsetting five-time national champion Nathan Adrian. It was Ervin’s first win in the 50 freestyle in 13 years.

    Santa Clarita Man Helped Save Swimmer Bitten By Shark At Manhattan Beach

    A Santa Clarita man helped save the swimmer who was bitten by a shark off the coast of Manhattan Beach on Saturday.

    About 50 residents of the city of Santa Clarita attended the second annual record-breaking event The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson Friday morning at the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center.

    Saugus Swimmer Abbey Weitzeil Sets Two Records

    Saugus High junior Abbey Weitzeil posted a pair of record-setting performances at the Speedo Winter Junior National Championships in North Carolina.

    Swimming for the Canyons Aquatics Club, Weitzeil set the meet records in the 50-meter and 100-freestyle events.

    She won both races. She set the meet record in the 50 free in 22.02 seconds in the preliminaries. She won the 100 free by setting the meet record in 47.78 seconds.

    The Canyons Aquatics Club finished fifth overall as a team.

    Saugus High's Abbey Weitzeil Shines At FINA World Junior Swim Championships

    Abbey Weitzeil took fifth place in the women’s 50-meter freestyle in 25.48 seconds at the FINA World Junior Championships in Dubai.

    Weitzeil, a junior at Saugus High, is only the second woman from the United States to reach the World Junior Championship final in the 50 freestyle.

    She also swam on the 4x100 freestyle relay team that won the bronze medal in 3 minutes, 43.04 seconds.

    World's Largest Swim Lesson Results Are Released

    On June 18, 2013, the Academy Swim Club officials in Valencia participated in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson event in hopes of breaking a Guinness World Record.

    She won the race in 25.27 seconds and nearly broke the meet record set by Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin.
