    West Ranch Softball Team Downs Rancho Cucamonga In First Round Of CIF Playoffs

    The West Ranch softball team beat Rancho Cucamonga, 4-1, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    Kylie Sorenson was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Charlotte Romero drove in a run in the second inning. Keeley Walsh had an RBI single in the fifth inning and Mollie Sorenson knocked in a run with a triple in the sixth inning.

    West Ranch Hosts CIF Baseball, Softball Playoff Games

    Three baseball teams from the Foothill League are in action today in the first round of the CIF playoffs.

    West Ranch, the Foothill League co-champion, is home against Los Alamitos, the third-place team from the Sunset League in the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    Canyon has one of the more interesting matchups. The Cowboys, the co-champions of the Foothill League, are on the road against Loyola. Canyon already beat Loyola once this season in the Anaheim Lions Tournament.

    Valencia Baseball Team Slams Past Westlake In CIF Playoffs

    The Valencia baseball team beat Westlake, 11-2, in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    AJ Balta hit a grand slam in the fourth inning to give the Vikings a 9-2 lead. He was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

    Valencia plays Harvard-Westlake, the No. 3 seeded team in the Division 1 playoffs, on Thursday.

    Six Teams From Santa Clarita Prepare For CIF Baseball Playoffs

    Six teams from the Santa Clarita Valley are in the CIF Southern Section baseball playoffs.

    Three teams from the Foothill League are in. The Valencia baseball team opens at home in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs against Westlake today.

    Valencia finished in third place in the Foothill League. Westlake is the third-place team from the Marmonte League.

    Saugus Sophomore Abbey Weitzeil Wins Two CIF Swim Titles

    Saugus sophomore Abbey Weitzeil won two CIF Southern Section Division 1 individual titles in record-breaking style at the Riverside Aquatics Complex.

    She won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.25 seconds, a Southern Section Division 1 record. Her time was 0.01 seconds off the state record and the fourth fastest time in the country according to the National Federation of State High School Association.

    The Master's College Baseball Wins Opening Round Game In NAIA Championship Tournament

    The Master’s College baseball team shut out Tabor from Kansas, 1-0, in the opening round of the NAIA national championship tournament.

    Mustangs starter AJ Work scattered seven hits in the complete-game win. He struck out six and walked three.

    Cody Harris was 2-for-4 and drove in the winning run in the eighth inning.

    West Ranch Swept In First Round Of CIF Boys Volleyball Playoffs

    The West Ranch boys volleyball team saw its amazing season come to an end in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    West Ranch, the undefeated champion of the Foothill League, lost to Orange Lutheran in a three-game sweep.

    Senior Tanner Skabelund led the Wildcats with nine kills in his last game at West Ranch.

    COC Softball Team Advances To Southern California Super Regional Playoff Round

    The College of the Canyons softball team won two games on Sunday to advance to the Southern California Super Regionals.

    COC shut out Saddleback College twice to win the best-of-three series. The Lady Cougars won the first game, 12-0, and the second game, 13-0.

    COC plays Santiago Canyon at Riverside College in the Super Regionals on Friday.

    Valencia Softball Team Beats Canyon, 7-6, To Stay In Playoff Hunt

    The Valencia softball team beat Canyon, 7-6, in home run derby style.

    Kristina Brackpool hit a grand slam in the first inning to give Valencia a 4-0 lead.

    But Canyon hit four home runs, including two solo shots by Julianna Carlos, to keep the game close.

    COC's Mychal Rivera Selected By The Oakland Raiders In NFL Draft

    College of the Canyons alum Mychal Rivera was selected in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders.

    The tight end played one season at College of the Canyons before transferring to the University of Tennessee. He caught 32 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in his only season at COC in 2009.
