    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 07, 2014

    The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team lost their final two games of the USL W-League regular season.

    They lost to the LA Blues, 4-1, in their regular season finale.

    The Blue Heat lost to the Colorado Rush, 6-1, in their home finale.

    The Blue Heat finished with a 4-8-0 record and in sixth place Western Conference of the USL W-League.

    West Ranch’s Lauren Lindvall was selected to the Cal-Hi Sports All State first team in softball.

    She was one of 30 softball players from California picked for the first team.

    Lindvall was the only player from the Foothill League selected to the team and one of 13 infielders on the first team.

    Santa Clarita Sports: West Ranch Softball Comes From Behind To Beat Canyon

    The West Ranch softball team needed a come-from-behind victory over Canyon to win its second Foothill League game of the season.

    West Ranch beat Canyon, 9-4, scoring six runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

    Canyon was up 1-0 in the first inning and increased its lead to 4-2 in the third inning.

    West Ranch improved to 2-0 in the Foothill League. Canyon dropped to 1-1.

    Saugus Softball Knocks Out A Cure For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

    The Saugus High School Girl’s Softball team will be holding their first Knock Out A Cure Hit-A-Thon fundraiser on Thursday, October 17.

    Hart 10-and-under Gold Softball Team Wins State Championship

    The Hart 10-and-under Gold softball team won a state championship and is moving on to the Western Nationals in Arizona.

    The Hart girls beat Charter Oak, 4-2, in the championship game to win the state title in Lancaster. Hart was 7-1 in the tournament and had to advance through the consolation bracket to reach the championship round.

    Hart lost to Charter Oak in the semifinal round, but rebounded for a 7-6 win over Rancho Trabuco and set up a rematch against Charter Oak.

    Three Foothill League Players Selected To Cal-Hi Sports All State Softball Team

    Three players from the Foothill League were selected to the Cal-Hi Sports all state softball team.

    Maddy Jelenicki from Saugus, Kylie Sorenson from West Ranch and Kristina Brackpool from Valencia earned spots on the all state team.

    Sorenson, a shortstop at West Ranch bound for Stanford, was the two-time Foothill League player of the year.

    Brackpool, the Valencia first baseman, will continue her softball career at Penn State.

    Valencia's Sydney Mundell Leads East All Stars In San Fernando Valley Softball Classic

    Valencia’s Sydney Mundell was selected as the top defensive player for her team in the eighth annual San Fernando Valley all-star classic softball game.

    The East All Stars won the game, 5-3, over the West All Stars. Mundell started for the East team and pitched four innings, allowing one run on six hits.

    Hart’s Sierra Quiala and Janae Coleman knocked in a pair of runs in the second inning to give the East All Stars a 2-0 lead.

    Valencia’s Kristina Brackpool had two hits for the East All Stars.

    Three Foothill League Softball Players Selected To All-CIF Team

    Three players from the Foothill League were selected to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 softball team.

    West Ranch’s Kylie Sorenson, Valencia’s Kristina Brackpool and Maddy Jelenicki from Saugus earned spots on the Division 1 first team.

    West Ranch reached the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs and lost to Santiago Corona, the eventual Division 1 champion.

    Valencia High Graduate Madison Shipman Selected To All American Softball Team

    A pair of Valencia High graduates earned some national recognition this week.

    Madison Shipman, a shortstop on the University of Tennessee softball team, was selected as an All American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

    She helped the Lady Volunteers reach the championship round of the NCAA Women’s College World Series against Oklahoma. Shipman, a junior at Tennessee, hit .367 with 11 home runs entering Monday’s game against Oklahoma.

    West Ranch Softball Team Loses To Santiago In Quarterfinals Of CIF Playoffs

    The West Ranch softball team lost to Santiago from Corona, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    The Wildcats ended their deepest playoff run in school history to a familiar foe. The two teams have played four times this season with Santiago winning all four games.

    Lauren Lombardi hit a solo home run for the Wildcats in the second inning to tie the score, 1-1. Kylie Sorenson hit a two-run double in the fifth inning to tie the score again, 3-3.
