    City Hosts Open House To Review Revisions On High Fire Hazard Zone

    The City of Santa Clarita will be holding two fire safety workshops this month for residents interested in learning about revisions to the City’s High Fire Hazard Zone. The workshops will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 and Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway.

    Sheriff's Station To Conduct DUI Checkpoint Next Weekend

    Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station/Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI-Drivers License checkpoint on April 19, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

    Community Gardens Holds Fundraiser To Build New Plots

    The Community Gardens of Santa Clarita will hold a fundraising donation drive to raise money for its Charity Expansion Project. The Community Gardens is partnering with Goodwill Southern California on the project, with a goal to build 25 new garden plots.

    The Community Gardens consists of 80 garden sites that are tended by individual gardeners, who enjoy planting flowers, herbs and organic vegetables.

    Canyon High School To Host Walk-A-Thon For Autism Awareness

    Canyon High School is hosting a Walk-A-Thon fundraiser to benefit Autism Awareness. The Walk-A-Thon is Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Canyon High School. The Yes I Can kids event raises funds for the Tenth Annual Summer Meltdown Autism Awareness Arts & Music Festival that will be held in Santa Clarita in May.

    City Announces Mayor's Ride To Kickoff Amgen Tour Of California

    Santa Clarita community members are invited to join Mayor Bob Kellar for a free community bike ride beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Iron Horse Trailhead located off of Magic Mountain Parkway near Tourney Road, according to a press release from the City of Santa Clarita. The Mayor’s Ride will kick off a series of events surrounding the 2013 Amen Tour of California professional cycling race, which is set to ride through Santa Clarita on Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15.

    A controversial bill introduced by Assemblyman Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, that could dramatically alter the education landscape is on the shelf for now, but likely to resurface next year, Wilk said Wednesday.

    Detectives from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Career Offenders, Burglary and Robbery Apprehension Team are seeking public assistance in identifying two people of interest thought to be responsible for four separate incidents of school burglary that occurred over the spring break between Friday, March 29 and Friday, April 5.
