    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 25, 2014

    The CIF Southern Section made a big error, leaving one of the best players in the state off the All-CIF team.

    Valencia’s Keston Hiura, who led the state in home runs, was added to the All-CIF Southern Section Division 1 first team a day after the All-CIF teams were released.

    Hiura hit 14 home runs in 28 games. He had a .500 batting with 30 RBIs. He will continue his baseball career at UC Irvine next year.

    Two players from the Santa Clarita Valley earned spots on the All-CIF Southern Section baseball teams.

    Nick Valaika from Hart was selected to the Southern Section Division 1 team.

    Noah Dent from Santa Clarita Christian is on the Southern Section Division 7 team.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 23, 2014

    The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team lost to Seattle Sounders, 2-1, in a USL W-League game.

    The Blue Heat took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Kassandra Massey in the 28th minute.

    The Sounders tied the score in the second half. The game-winner came in the 78th minute.

    The Blue Heat dropped to 3-4. Their next game is against the LA Blues on Thursday.

    Valencia High graduate Madison Shipman, who completed her senior softball season at the University of Tennessee, won a Honda Sport Award.

    She is the second female athlete from Tennessee to win the award.

    Shipman is now a finalist for the Collegiate Women’s Athlete of the Year and the 2014 Honda Cup.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 19, 2014

    In high school baseball, two players from Valencia High were selected to the Louisville Slugger All America Team.

    Keston Hiura is on the first team and Devin Davis is on the second team.

    Hiura hit 14 home runs, the most in the state and sixth in the nation according to Max Preps.com. He hit .500 with 30 RBIs and scored 43 runs.

    Hiura is headed to UC Irvine in the fall.

    Davis hit .427 with five home runs and drove in a team-high 33 runs.

    He will continue his baseball career at Loyola Marymount University.

    The Master’s College added a couple runners to its track and field and cross country teams.

    Andrew Sanchez will join the track team. He was on the College of the Canyons team and ran for the Village Christian track team in high school.

    He holds the school record in the 400 at Village Christian and was on the COC team in 2013.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 17, 2014

    The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team shut out the Sedona FC Strikers, 3-0, in a USL W-League game.

    The Blue Heat scored all three goals in the first half.

    The first goal came on an own goal by the Strikers in the fifth minute. Celina Minissian made it 2-0 with a goal in the 12th minute.

    Hannah Sanders gave the Blue Heat a 3-0 lead in the 20th minute.

    The Blue Heat evened their record at 3-3. Their next game is against the Seattle Sounders on the road on Sunday.

    Start spreading the news. The Los Angeles Kings are Stanley Cup champions again.

    The Kings beat the New York Rangers, 3-2 in double overtime, in Game 5 at Staples Center. The Kings won the series, 4-1.

    In college soccer, The Master’s College added a couple players to its roster for the fall season.

    Scott Landon and Kipp Barnes will play for The Master’s College men’s soccer team.

    Landon played at Granada Hills High School and LA Mission College before transferring to The Master’s College. He was also on the Santa Clarita Storm club team.

    Barnes is from Cincinnati and played for the Calvary Christian School.

    In college track and field, Canyon High graduate Chris Low won his heat race in the 800 meters at the NCAA Division I Outdoor championships in Oregon.

    Low, who won a state championship in the 800 at College of the Canyons, won his semifinals race in 1 minute, 48.34 seconds.

    The Long Beach State junior is the No. 3 seed in the 800 meters final. Mississippi State’s Brandon McBride is the No. 1 seed. He won his heat race in 1 minute, 48.09 seconds.
