    Gorman Body ID'ed, Renews Santa Clarita Valley Murder Investigation

    While coroners are still working to determine the cause of death, a Los Angeles man believed to have been murdered and then dumped in Gorman was identified by Sheriff’s Department officials Monday. Homicide detectives are still investigating the situation as a murder. Ricardo Lopez, 32, of Los Angeles, is believed to have been shot in the head, perhaps as many as three years before fragments of his skeleton were identified July 15. Lopez, who lived in an area of Los Angeles known as Athens, near Imperial Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, was found with what detectives suspect was a gunshot in his skull.

    Coroner IDs Murder Victim In Gorman, Seeks Family Members

    Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office have been trying to find the family of a man whose remains were found March 15 in a Gorman drainage ditch.

    On July 15, officials identified the remains of a body found four months earlier in the wake of the Pine Fire.

    UPDATE: Trial To Start In September For Alleged Gang Members In 2011 Killing

    A pretrial hearing is underway Monday in the trial of three then-teens accused of fatally shooting man in an alleged robbery that turned deadly on Halloween 2011. The “Halloween trio,” Diamonte Jerome McGhee, 20, Branden Trevaughn Higgs, 19, and Eric Michael Edwards, 20, were all under 18 when they initially were arrested on charges they were involved in the death of Alex Sanchez and wounded Ricardo Sandoval during a robbery gone awry Oct. 21, 2011. The pretrial hearing today was expected to review motions for the case, which could start trial next week.

Simpson, a former NFL and film star, was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Kim’s brother, Ronald Goldman, in 1995, then found liable for the deaths in a civil trial in 1997. “I think people talk about forgiveness as part of the grieving process because they don’t understand what you go through,” Goldman said, discussing the title. “For me, there really is no opportunity to forgive -- he stabbed my brother to death -- it’s just not possible for me.”

    'Halloween Trio' Accused Of Murder Could Face Trial In June

    A long-awaited Santa Clarita murder trial for three teen suspects accused of fatally shooting a man during an alleged Halloween robbery in 2011 could see jury selection in June, an official said Thursday. The “Halloween trio,” Diamonte Jerome McGhee, 20, Branden Trevaughn Higgis, 19, and Eric Michael Edwards, 19, were all under 18 when they were arrested on charges they were involved in the death of Alex Sanchez and wounded Ricardo Sandoval during a robbery gone awry Oct. 21, 2011. “We expect (jury selection) to start June 23 or June 24,” said Brad Lieberman, the deputy district attorney in charge of the case’s prosecution. The defendants have a June 16 court date, but that’s a pretrial conference for the attorneys, officials said.

    Santa Clarita Valley Murder, Attempted Murder Cases Have Court Dates

    There are trial updates for several Santa Clarita Valley court cases in the news this week, according to officials with the District Attorney’s Office. The cases for a woman accused of fatally shooting a former Hart district special education assistant, a man accused of stabbing his son and a man accused of murdering his neighbor after an argument were all in court this week.

    Coroner Still Working To ID Burnt Remains Found After Gorman Fire

    Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office are still working to identify human remains found in Gorman shortly after a March 14 fire near Highway 138. Sheriff's Department officials reported Sunday that Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner personnel recovered the skeletal remains of an adult man found in a ravine off Ridge Route Road and Highway 138 in Gorman. “They’ve been looking at some missing persons with dental records and sent some bone missing with DNA,” said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. “So we’re still trying to find out who it is.”
