Marie Wise-Hawkins

    2014 KHTS Local Winner Of Country Showdown Announced

    Marie Wise-Hawkins was announced as the 2014 KHTS Santa Clarita Valley winner of Saturday’s 33rd annual Country Showdown at Concerts in the Park.

    The seven-person country group competed against two other winners of the preliminary rounds at the show, which was headlined by last year’s winner, Suzanne Harper.

    Poor Man's Poison Headlines At Concerts In The Park This Weekend

    This past year, the band Poor Man’s Poison won the Texaco Country Showdown in Nashville, Tenn. held at the legendary Ryman Auditorium. They also received the title “Best New Act in Country Music” along with $100,000. Poor Man’s Poison started out locally in Santa Clarita where they were sponsored by KHTS AM-1220. They went through the rounds of local competition eventually advancing to the National Final Round of the Texaco Country Showdown to compete for the title amongst four other artists.

    Canyon Country Vocal Star To Compete In Macaroni Grill Sing Off

    If you’ve been to the Canyon Theatre Guild, you’ve seen her as Betty Jean in “The Marvelous Wonderettes” or as Pasty Cline in “Always…Patsy Cline.” While still in high school she starred as Eponine in Canyon High’s production of “Les Miserables.” In 2010, she graduated from CalArts with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Classical Voice.
