Holocaust Survivor Edith Frankie Visits Rio Norte Junior High

Dozens of Hart district junior high students and their parents listened to a real-life lesson plan that accompanied their reading of “The Diary of Anne Frank” on Monday.

Holocaust survivor Edith Frankie, 82, visited Rio Norte Junior High to speak with a class of eighth-graders Monday. “I’m happy because it was was an experience I could enrich my students with,” said Vickie Kaplan, an eighth-grade teacher. “It is something that they can learn from for their future.”

SCV Woman Is Area's Youngest Holocaust Survivor

Santa Clarita is home to many Jewish people, and their heritage and life stories add to the cultural richness of our valley. But Newhall resident Erika Schwartz has a particularly important life story to share.

Born in Hungary in 1944, Schwartz is the youngest Holocaust survivor still living in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Because she was an infant, Schwartz has no personal memories of World War II, but the stories told to her by her mother about their life back then are poignant and powerful.
