    Santa Clarita Sports: Foothill League Softball Battles In Playoffs

    The Kings are down 1-0 in the Western Conference finals of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

    They can even the series tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks.

    The Kings lost the first game of the series, 3-1, on Sunday.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Four Teams In Foothill League Baseball Begin Playoffs

    In high school baseball, four teams from the Foothill League are in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. Two of them are in action in the wild-card round on Wednesday.

    West Ranch is home against Chaminade.

    Saugus travels to play Alemany in the wild-card round.

    Hart, the Foothill League champion, will open the playoffs on Friday. The Indians will play the winner of the wild-card game between Orange Lutheran and Newport Harbor.

    The Kings are in a familiar place, down in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

    The Kings lost to the Chicago Blackhawks, 3-1, in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals.

    The Blackhawks scored a goal in each period. They were up 1-0 in the first period and 2-1 at the end of the second period.

    Tyler Toffoli scored the only goal for the Kings in the second period.

    Game 2 is in Chicago on Wednesday night.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Hart Baseball Wins Foothill League Championship

    The Kings and Ducks have been evenly matched in their Stanley Cup playoff series. So it’s only fitting that it comes down to Game 7 tonight.

    The Western Conference semifinal series between the Kings and Ducks is tied at 3-3. The Kings are coming off a hard-fought, 2-1, win in Game 6.

    Santa Clarita Sports: West Ranch And Valencia Tennis Advance In Playoffs

    The return of the Kings led to a 2-1 win over the Ducks in Game 6 of the NHL playoffs. The quest for Lord Stanley’s cup is still alive for the Kings.

    The series is tied 3-3. The Kings won the first two games of the series. The Ducks won the next three in a row.

    The Kings evened things up in Game 6. Game 7 is in Anaheim on Friday night.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Hart And Golden Valley Advance In Tennis Playoffs

    In high school tennis, the Hart and Golden Valley boys won their wild-card matches in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.

    Hart beat Buena Park, 17-1. Elliot Miller swept his sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.

    Hart plays Windward in the next round today.

    Golden Valley beat Pacifica from Oxnard, 11-7. Brandon Yu swept his sets, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.

    Golden Valley takes on Pasadena Poly in the next round.

    Santa Clarita Sports: The Master's College Baseball Continues In NAIA Tournament

    In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Davenport from Michigan, 4-0, on the first day of the NAIA national tournament.

    Davenport scored four runs in the first inning. The Master’s College collected only five hits in the game.

    The Mustangs, the No. 2 seed in the Santa Clarita bracket of the NAIA tournament, plays Vanguard this morning.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Local Players Selected In The 2014 NFL Draft

    In football, Valencia High graduate Brock Vereen was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the NFL draft.

    Vereen was a defensive back for the University of Minnesota and was a All Big 10 selection in his senior year.

    He will play against his older brother, Shane Vereen, a running back with the New England Patriots, in week eight.

    Karim Barton, who played at College of the Canyons and Morgan State, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles. The offensive guard was one of 15 undrafted free agents signed by the Eagles.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Tie For First Place In Foothill League Softball

    In high school softball, Saugus shut out West Ranch, 1-0, and moved into a tie for first place in the Foothill League standings.

    The Centurions snapped the Wildcats’ 26-game winning streak in the Foothill League.

    Saugus starter Mariah Lopez pitched a five-hitter. She struck out six and walked none. Alyssa Rodriguez drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the first inning.

    Both teams are tied for first place in the Foothill League with 7-1 records.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Hart And Saugus Baseball Stay In First Place Tie

    In high school baseball, Hart and Saugus won their Foothill League games on Wednesday and stayed in a tie for first place.

    Hart beat a feisty Golden Valley team, 7-6. The Indians were up 5-0 in the first inning, but Golden Valley scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning to cut the Hart lead to one.
