    Canyon Boys Basketball Team Crushes Morse In COC Showcase

    The Canyon boys basketball team easily downed Morse from San Diego, 72-55, in the College of the Canyons Showcase on Saturday.

    Ben Taufahema scored 25 points and hit seven 3-pointers to lead Canyon. He also had 12 rebounds.

    Marc Cabrera scored 16 points and had nine assists.

    West Ranch Boys Basketball Team Takes On Chaminade

    In a match-up of area basketball powerhouses, the West Ranch boys play Chaminade tonight at West Ranch High. West Ranch is 5-7 and coming off a 78-51 loss to Sacramento in the Holiday Hardwood Classic at Westlake High School.

    Chaminade is 11-1 and won its own Christmas Classic Tournament over Eastside Catholic from Washington last week.

    Tipoff is at 7.

    Hart Boys Basketball Team Topples St. Francis

    The Hart boys basketball team beat St. Francis, 63-54. Lewis Stallworth led the Indians with 22 points and five assists.

    Andrew MacArthur added 12 points for Hart. The Indians are 8-1 after their first nine games.

    Hart begins play in their own tournament on Thursday. Undefeated Village Christian and an 8-1 Highland team are in the tournament.

    Saugus Swimmer Abbey Weitzeil Sets Two Records

    Saugus High junior Abbey Weitzeil posted a pair of record-setting performances at the Speedo Winter Junior National Championships in North Carolina.

    Swimming for the Canyons Aquatics Club, Weitzeil set the meet records in the 50-meter and 100-freestyle events.

    She won both races. She set the meet record in the 50 free in 22.02 seconds in the preliminaries. She won the 100 free by setting the meet record in 47.78 seconds.

    The Canyons Aquatics Club finished fifth overall as a team.

    Trinity Classical Academy Football Piles Up All-CIF Awards

    The Trinity Classical Academy raked in the postseason accolades on the All-CIF Southern Section Division 2 8-man football team.

    Spencer Klehn was selected as the Division 2 player of the year. Teammate Patch Kulp earned the defensive MVP award.

    Hart Football Begins New Era In CIF Playoffs

    The Hart football team ended a 10-year CIF championship drought by winning the Southern Section Northern Division title last week.

    The Indians can start a new CIF championship tradition Saturday night at College of the Canyons.

    The Hart football team is playing in its first CIF State bowl game. So is Chaminade.

    Hart has a little bit of history on its side. The Indians won their ninth CIF championship in the Southern Section Northern Division final against Valencia.
