    Valencia's Alison Lee Reaches Quarterfinals Of Championship

    Valencia High graduate Alison Lee won her round of 16 match at the US Women’s Amateur golf championship and is in the quarterfinals.

    Lee defeated Alexandra Harkins from Crystal Lake, Ill., 3 and 2 in the round of 16 at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

    The Master's College Men's Golf Team Penalized By NAIA

    The Master’s College men’s golf team was penalized by the NAIA and will not be able to contend for a national championship in 2014.

    The golf team qualified for the NAIA national championship tournament last season, but did not participate because of self-imposed sanctions.

    The Master’s College athletic director, Steve Waldeck, told The Signal, “There were some violations of our internal athletic code of conduct” by the athletes on the golf team.

    West Ranch Reaches Quarterfinals Of Foothill Invitational Girls Volleyball Tournament

    The West Ranch girls volleyball team reached the quarterfinals of the Foothill Invitational tournament at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex. The Centurions lost to Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

    Chaparral defeated Notre Dame, 2-0, in the championship match.

    The Hart girls volleyball team finished in ninth place in the tournament in the Invitational Division. The Indians defeated Sunnyside of Fresno, 2-1, in the ninth-place match.

    Hart Wins Valley Invitational League Baseball Championship, 8-4, Over Saugus

    Hart beat Saugus, 8-4, to win the Valley Invitational Baseball League championship at Birmingham High.

    The Indians scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie.

    Nick Valaika doubled and drove in a run in the fourth inning for Hart. He added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

    Valencia High Graduate Max Homa Selected To U.S. Walker Cup Golf Team

    Valencia High graduate Max Homa was selected to play on the Walker Cup golf team for the United States.

    Homa, who graduated from UC Berkeley and won the NCAA Division I Individual Championship in his senior season, was one of five golfers announced to the Walker Cup team. The international match for amateur golfers is at the National Golf Links of America in Southampton, N.Y., and starts on Sept. 7.

    Valencia High Grad Alison Lee Wins AJGA Rolex Tournament Of Champions

    Valencia High graduate Alison Lee won the American Junior Golf Association Rolex Tournament of Champions in Pennsylvania, her third junior tournament championship in a row.

    Lee, who will be attending UCLA in the fall, won the Rolex Tournament of Champions at Lancaster Country Club by six shots. She had a four-round tota l of 4-under 276.

    She is ranked No. 1 in the junior Polo rankings.

    West Ranch's Joey Downey Joins The Master's College Golf Team

    West Ranch graduate Joey Downey will continue his golf career at The Master’s College.

    Downey, the 2013 Foothill League MVP, won the Newhall Cup and was part of the West Ranch Foothill League championship team in his senior season.

    He joins The Master’s College team that won the Cascade/Golden State Athletic Conference championship and was ranked No. 14 in the NAIA last season.

    Valencia High Graduate Max Homa 2-over In First Round Of US Open Golf Tournament

    Valencia High graduate Max Homa was 2-over after six holes in the first round of the US Open golf tournament at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

    Homa had bogeys on the third and fourth holes. Play was suspended because of darkness and the opening round of the US Open was delayed twice by rain and storms.

    Valencia High Graduate Madison Shipman Selected To All American Softball Team

    A pair of Valencia High graduates earned some national recognition this week.

    Madison Shipman, a shortstop on the University of Tennessee softball team, was selected as an All American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

    She helped the Lady Volunteers reach the championship round of the NCAA Women’s College World Series against Oklahoma. Shipman, a junior at Tennessee, hit .367 with 11 home runs entering Monday’s game against Oklahoma.

    Valencia High Graduate Max Homa Wins NCAA Golf Championship

    Valencia High graduate Max Homa won the NCAA individual golf championship by shooting a 4-under 66 in the final round in Milton, Ga.

    Homa, a senior at UC Berkeley, was two shots off the lead entering the final round of the NCAA golf championship. He birdied three of the first five holes to take the lead.

    Cal earned the top seed in the team match play portion of the tournament behind Homa’s strong effort.
