    Hay Truck Fire Ignites Brush North Of Castaic


    A brush fire erupted Tuesday at about 4:04 p.m. when a tractor-trailer carrying hay caught on fire on northbound Interstate 5 north of Templin Highway.

    The hay bales caught fire and ignited the brush on the west side of the freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

    As of 4:40 p.m. the fire was burning uphill in 4- to 5-mph winds and had grown to 5 acres.

    No structures are reported to be threatened. The fire is on U.S. Forest Service land.

    Two Brush Fires Slowed Traffic But Now Under Control

    A nine-acre brush fire had been reported near the Southbound 5 freeway near the 14 interchange. Two lanes of the freeway had been shut down in attempts to put out the flames. A second two-acre fire was reported near Templin Freeway and the 5 northbound.

    Higher Than Normal Summer Temperatures Possible For Santa Clarita

    National Weather Service officials provide safety tips for hot summer conditions. Avoid prolonged exposure and never leave children or pets in a parked car. There is a 30 percent chance that temperatures will be above normal this summer.
