The L.A. County Sheriff's Department will receive more than $2.5 million to increase DUI patrols and checkpoints throughout the county, thanks to a Board of Supervisors decision on Tuesday. The Castaic Animal Care Center is also in line to receive funds.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Castaic Animal Care Center may receive funding for DUI patrols and "meet and greet" yard improvements, respectively. The county board will vote on whether to approve the funds at their Tuesday meeting.
Rick Allen Walker, who is convicted of four counts of DUI causing injury, was sentenced to seven years in state prison on Thursday. Walker injured 11 people, four of them seriously, when he drove the wrong way on Highway 14 during rush hour.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will discuss Sheriff's Department and juvenile legal defense reform at their Tuesday meeting, in addition to a grant that would help the Sheriff's Department improve their forensics bureau.
