    COC Grad Awarded $7,500 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship

    A valedictorian of College of the Canyons' 2014 graduating class was one of ten students nationwide chosen to receive the 2014 Phi Theta Kappa Hites Transfer Scholarship award, college officials announced Wednesday.

    Jessie Warme, who is set to attend the University of California at San Diego in the fall, was selected from more than 2,200 applicants to be awarded with the $7,500 scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement of Phi Theta Kappa members.

    COC Veterans Center Sees Rise In Number Of Student Veterans

    College of the Canyons Adult Reentry and Veterans Center staff are noting a rise in the number of student veterans coming to them for assistance, college officials announced Wednesday.

    Center officials saw about 20 percent more veterans during the 2013-2014 academic year compared to the previous year, bringing their total for the year to more than 1,000 veterans assisted, according to a COC news release.

    The Santa Clarita WorkSource Center officials are expected to host a free H&R Block Seasonal Recruitment event on Friday, Aug. 21 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the University Center in College of the Canyon’s Valencia campus, according to a news release.
