    College Of The Canyons To Graduate Largest Class In School History

    College of the Canyons will celebrate the 2014 class of graduates during their annual commencement ceremony on Friday. This year, 1,343 students will graduate, the largest class in the history of the school.

    COC To Present Scholarly Discussion On Prison Privatization

    The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center will host a scholarly presentation given by COC professor Karyl Kicenski on Thursday. Kicenski will speak on prison privatization and how she believes it has affected recidivism, politics and the economy.

    Comedians Of The Canyons Hosting Semester’s Final Evening Of Improv

    College of the Canyons’ student improv group, Comedians of the Canyons, is hosting the spring semester’s final show May 30.

    The show is performed entirely by students enrolled in the college’s advanced improvisational performance theatre class, and has enjoyed “tremendous success” the past few years, according to a COC news release.

    The College of the Canyons hosted a Battle of the Bands Sunday at the college’s Canyon Country Campus with prizes, raffles, performances and a car display.

    The 2014 College of the Canyons Women’s Conference is set for Tuesday, June 10 and will feature a number of presenters and breakout sessions at COC’s Valencia campus.

    Santa Clarita Sports: The Master's College Baseball Continues In NAIA Tournament

    In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Davenport from Michigan, 4-0, on the first day of the NAIA national tournament.

    Davenport scored four runs in the first inning. The Master’s College collected only five hits in the game.

    The Mustangs, the No. 2 seed in the Santa Clarita bracket of the NAIA tournament, plays Vanguard this morning.

    Annual COC Student Art Exhibition Returns For 18th Installment

    The College of the Canyons Art Gallery is presenting the 18th annual Student Art Exhibition starting on May 15, COC officials announced Friday.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Tie For First Place In Foothill League Softball

    In high school softball, Saugus shut out West Ranch, 1-0, and moved into a tie for first place in the Foothill League standings.

    The Centurions snapped the Wildcats’ 26-game winning streak in the Foothill League.

    Saugus starter Mariah Lopez pitched a five-hitter. She struck out six and walked none. Alyssa Rodriguez drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the first inning.

    Both teams are tied for first place in the Foothill League with 7-1 records.

    Santa Clarita Sports: COC Golf Earns Berth In State Tournament

    The College of the Canyons men’s golf team won the Southern California Championship by 15 strokes at the Pauma Valley Country Club.

    COC won the 36-hole tournament with a 4-over 723. Sophomore Sidney Wolf shot the low round of the tournament, an 8-under 136. He shot a pair of 4-under 68s in both rounds.

    The Cougars earned a berth in the California Community College Athletic Association men’s golf state tournament at the Victoria Club in Riverside.
