    The northbound Interstate 5 and Route 14 truck route has a temporary road closure after a fire was put out in that area, according to the California Highway Patrol.

    Canyon Country Woman Critically Injured In Ojai Crash Monday

    A Santa Clarita Valley woman sustained life-threatening head injuries in a three-car crash that claimed the life of a Ventura woman Monday afternoon near Ojai.

    According to the California Highway Patrol, Lucinda Diaz, 26, of Canyon Country, was the passenger in a 2012 Kia Optima driven by Sean Staub, 23, of North Carolina.

    CHP Newhall Explorers' Stuffed Toy Drive Is Well Underway

    The spring stuffed toy drive run by the California Highway Patrol's Newhall Explorer program is underway. Started by Explorer Alexis Briano to benefit the Michael Hoefflin Foundation, the drive has already collected about 110 toys.

    SCV Deputies Announce Crackdown For Distracted Driving

    As part of April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month campaign, Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies will be actively ticketing those texting or operating hand-held cell phones from April 3-16.

    Drivers who break the law and place themselves and others in danger will be cited with no warnings.

    According to the CHP the 5 Northbound and Southbound have been reopened between Parker Road in Castaic and Highway 138. 

    Update 10 a.m.

    California Highway Patrol officers are escorting vehicles through the Grapevine on Interstate 5, after several hours of closures left traffic severely congested.
