A Symbol Of Hope

Classic Designs Jewelry, a longtime Santa Clarita business, is
making a pact to lend a helping hand during these tough economic times.
Owner Apo Yessayan has vowed to give away a free sterling silver
pendant necklace to people who have lost their jobs or their homes. Up to 100
of these necklaces will be given away, and Yessayan says there are no strings attached.
"All they have to do is show proof that they lost their job,
or that they lost their house to foreclosure, and they get it," he told KHTS.
A letter from the unemployment office or a letter from the
former employer can serve as sufficient evidence.
Why give the jewelry away? Yessayan says that the giveaway
started in Ventura last week, when
a jeweler who belongs to the same independent jewelers association as Classic
Designs ran a similar program. The response was so great that it prompted
Yessayan and 44 other jewelers across the nation to do the same.
"We hope it is a symbol of hope and change in their future,"
he said. "And it's a way to come together as a group to do this for the
communities who have supported us for all these years."
Yessayan first opened Classic Designs jewelry in Santa
Clarita in 1992, and the store is now located in the Kohl's shopping center in Valencia.
