over two day audition period.

Green Convergence

Student musicians from junior high and high schools across
the Hart School
District will converge on Golden
Valley High School
Jan. 30 and 31 to audition for coveted spots on the annual Hart District Honor
Bands.

As many as 800 students are expected to audition for 85
spots in each band-one for high school and the other for junior high. Auditions
will be held 4 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m.
to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with a slightly modified audition format
to accommodate the larger number of students expected to participate this year.

Once Honor Band members are chosen, musicians will begin
rehearsing challenging musical pieces at their own schools before coming
together for the first time just before the annual Honor Band concert slated
for March 7 at Hart High
School. Professional guest conductors will lead
the final combined rehearsals and the concert itself.

Musical
programs are reaching maturity in some of the district's newest schools, with
many excellent student musicians prepared to vie for the Honor Band slots this
year, according to Randy Gilpin, Honor Band spokesman.
