Spring Semester Classes Still Available At College Of The Canyons

Though the spring 2014 semester has started, students and community members who are considering registering for classes at College of the Canyons will still find plenty of open class sections to help them pursue their academic and career endeavors.

The spring 2014 semester officially started Monday, Feb. 10. However, students can register for classes through Friday, Feb. 21.

Currently, there are still more than 5,000 student seats available in nearly 700 class sections, with courses being offered at both the Valencia and Canyon Country campuses and online.

“If you’ve been on the fence about attending classes this semester, it’s not too late to get registered,” said Jasmine Ruys, Director of Admissions & Records at the college. “At College of the Canyons students will still have access to a wind-ranging selection of available class sections this semester.”

Included among the open class sections are a number of popular academic courses that students traditionally need in order to transfer to a four-year school, as well as several of the college’s Career Technical Education (CTE) courses.

CTE course subjects include solar technology, welding, water technology, land surveying, construction technology, plumbing, fire technology, hotel/restaurant management, paralegal studies, photography, media entertainment arts, real estate, American Sign Language, early childhood education, geographic information systems (GIS), business, computer science and computer information technology.

“The college’s lineup of CTE courses offer students the opportunity to learn high demand job skills that often lead directly to employment,” said Kristin Houser, Dean of Career Technical Education at the college.

Students and community members interested in pursuing a career or personal interest in the area of culinary arts and/or wine studies will also find a variety of open class sections to pique their palate this semester.

“And with the college’s new Culinary Arts facility scheduled to open at the Valencia campus in fall 2014, culinary-minded students may want to consider using the spring semester to get a jump start on some of the program’s curriculum requirements, or explore a particular area of interest,” said Cindy Schwanke, Chair of the college’s culinary arts and wine studies departments.

Rounding out the selection of still available spring semester courses are a broad range of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes designed to meet the needs of students who are beginning the process of learning English and/or needing to hone their English skills.

A complete list of currently available spring semester classes has been posted on the college’s web site at www.canyons.edu/Offices/admissions/Documents/OpenClasses.pdf.
