Shooting In Canyon Country
Suspected gang members shoot victim standing near house in residential area.
A man was shot Tuesday afternoon at a house on Lonerock Street and deputies are currently searching for a black 1998 Mustang with three male Hispanic occupants.
According to Sgt. Darren Harris of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station, the victim was standing with two friends on Lone Rock Street when the vehicle drove by and the occupants exchanged words. A few minutes later, the vehicle was northbound on Whites Canyon Road and stopped to talk with the group where Lone Rock dead-ends into Whites Canyon.
The victim approached the car and a male Hispanic wearing a black shirt and a bandana in the car shouted a gang slogan at him before opening fire.
The victim was hit in the stomach by the gunfire. He was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The suspect vehicle, which was described as a black two-door Mustang with clear taillights, no tinting on the windows and no special rims, has not been found.
Detectives are also investigating a possible connection between this shooting and a December drive-by shooting on Arch Street that left Newhall resident Bryan Miranda dead and injured Jose Valdez.
