Sheriff's Investigate Saturday's Brush Fire Near Car Dealerships
Sheriff's have detained a minor that may be involved.
UPDATED: Sunday, 9:00p.m.
A brush fire near the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and Creekside Road in Valencia was reported just before 8 p.m Saturday.
Battalion Chief Joe Lindaman said that the fire was held to 2 1/2 acres with containment confirmed at 8:30 p.m.
The fire was confined to the natural brush area in the wash behind the car dealerships that line Creekside. Air units initially called were cancelled because of power lines in the area. Lindaman said a dozer was cancelled as well because ground units were able to handle the fire.
Firefighters working on Bridgeport Lane were approached by several young women who reported seeing a teenage boy with a lighter leaving the creek area.
On Sunday, local Sheriff's officials confirmed that one minor was detained, however further details were not immediately available because the investigation is being handled by the Sheriff's Arson and Explosives Unit.
No roads were closed while seven crews worked to put out hot spots. Moderate winds in the area contributed to the fire's quick spread, but no businesses were threatened and no injuries were reported.
