A little over a month ago, Sheldon was joined by his wife Eva at Saugus High School, where they told their story about life during the holocaust.

Their stories were shared as part of the Holocaust Memorial project organized by the California State Assembly. Locally, Cameron Smyth’s office found Sheldon and Eva, and asked high school students to interview them about their experiences.

KHTS recorded the interview in its entirety, and has preserved it on hometownstation.com. Click here to be directed to that story, with a link to the audio recording.

Ed Masterson, who works in Assemblyman Smyth’s local office, offered condolences to the Mars family. “I spoke with Assemblyman Smyth about [Sheldon’s death], and the two of us were both saddened to hear about that,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family members.”

He also noted that he has taken a great deal away from hearing Sheldon and Eva speak; “Just the amazing outlook on life that Mr. and Mrs. Mars had, especially given the horrific events they had to live through during that part of history,” Masterson told KHTS.
