    Hart School District Performing Arts Events Slated for 2013-2014 School Year

    Performing arts groups from HartSchool District schools across the Santa Clarita Valley are holding concerts and theatre performances to showcase the talent and commitment of students throughout the District.

    A variety of band, choir and drama productions are slated for the 2013-2014 school year. Students, parents and community members are encouraged to support local performing arts programing while enjoying great local entertainment. Event dates, times, ticket prices and venues are detailed below:

    Santa Clarita Employment Strong Heading Into Holidays

    Santa Clarita’s economy is holding strong heading into the busy holiday season.  The latest unemployment numbers for Santa Clarita show a slight increase from 5.7 percent in September 2013 to 5.8 percent in October 2013 according to the California’s Employment Development Department.

    Santa Clarita’s unemployment rate continues to decline from its height during the Great Recession.  October’s rate is down from a year ago when it was 6.4 percent. 

    Friends Of Santa Clarita Hosts First Annual Gingerbread House Contest

    If you are an architect at heart who loves design and enjoys working with sweets, then the Santa Clarita Public Library’s first annual Gingerbread House Contest is for you! 

    All you have to do is pre-register for the free contest, create your ultimate gingerbread house, and deliver your creation to the Valencia Library on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

    Saugus Union School District Teacher Tribute Honorees 2014

    Saugus Union School District, in association with the Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation, is proud to honor our 15 Teacher Tribute Honorees for the 2013-2014 school year that will be recognized at the annual Teacher Tribute Event held at the College of the Canyons, Performing Arts Center on April 16. These teachers were selected by their colleagues for demonstrating professionalism in all areas of performance, providing leadership at the school site and district level, and for exemplifying the spirit and quality of our district.

    Valencia Valley Elementary Hosts 6th Grade International Fair Nov. 18

    Sixth grade students at Valencia Valley Elementary spent the last 6 weeks working on a research report , display board, and presentation on a country. Thirty-two countries will be represented at the school's International Fair.  Each student will be introducing his/her country and telling four interesting facts about it. Some students will also be bringing food from their country to share. Families are invited to attend, the event will take place at Valencia Valley Elementary on Nov. 18 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Theatre Department Presents John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men”

    "The best laid schemes of mice and men often go awry,” wrote the poet Robert Burns, which inspired the title of John Steinbeck’s beloved classic novel “Of Mice and Men.”

    The College of the Canyons theatre department will present its production of the Nobel-Prize winning author’s novel at the college’s Black Box theater from Nov. 20-24.

    Addressing the themes of friendship, loneliness and the pursuit of the American dream, “Of Mice and Men” has captured the hearts of readers ever since its publication in 1937.

    Green Energy Efficient Business Encouraged To Sign Up For The 'Whac-A-Watt Save-A-Lot' Energy Challenge

    The City of Santa Clarita and the Community Energy Partnership invite local businesses with tracked energy savings to sign up for the Whac-A-Watt, Save-A-Lot Business Energy Challenge by November 30, 2013.
