    City Of Santa Clarita To Begin Railroad Avenue Beautification Project

    The City of Santa Clarita will construct a new landscaped median on Railroad Avenue between 13th Street and Oak Ridge Drive as part of the Railroad Avenue Beautification Project. Construction will begin in February 2014 and complete in June 2014, with the majority of the roadwork conducted between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. 

    City Of Santa Clartia Hosts Community Emergency Response Training

    Give a gift of life-saving proportions by signing up for the City’s Community Emergency Response Training (CERT). This seven-week program will teach residents basic survival skills that can be crucial during disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods, hazardous incidents, and other life-threatening situations.  Classes will take place on Thursday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.beginning January 16, 2014 through February 27, 2014 at the City of Santa Clarita Activities Center.

    The HartSchool District has a legacy of wonderfully talented musicians. Their legacy just made amazing history when all six of the high school marching bands qualified for the state championships at the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association championships.

    New Programs And Extended Hours Throughout Winter Break At Newhall Community Center

    School’s out for the holidays and the City of Santa Clarita is offering fun, new programming to help youth stay active on the weekdays throughout winter break.  Now through Friday, January 10, 2014, the Newhall Community Center will offer FREE drop-in programming from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) for youth ages 5-17.  Saturday drop-in programming will resume on January 11, 2014 with new hours from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.       

    College Of The Canyons Teams Win First Place At Business Conference

    The College of the Canyons Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) - Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) won first place at the FBLA-PBL California State Fall Business Leadership Conference on November 9-10, 2013 in Concord, Calif.

    Winning in both divisions of the Business Case Analysis competition, the college’s teams competed against several four-year schools such as UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, USC, CSU Fullerton and CSU Dominguez Hills.

    Valencia Valley Elementary Hosts Roam Around the World Musical

    The 6th grade at Valencia Valley School recently completed their historical unit on ancient times and has prepared a musical to highlight what they have learned.  "Roam Around the World" is a 6th grade musical that takes the audience on a comical journey through ancient times.  The musical's choreographed dance moves and music from current decades is always a highlight for the parents and family members of Valencia Valley's students.

    Roadtrip Nation takes its inspirational program and iconic green RV to Bowman High School Friday. During the famed program, local professionals share their path to success and encourage youth to dream big. The production was created to help students at risk of dropping out of high school connect their studies and interests to real-world opportunities.

    College Of The Canyons Board Of Trustees To Reconvene Jan. 22 With New Officers

    At its final meeting of the calendar year, the Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees, which governs College of the Canyons, elected a new slate of board officers for 2014, and approved its meeting dates for the upcoming year.

    The board voted unanimously for Ms. Michele Jenkins to become board president, citing her 29 years of service as a board member at the college as well as her experience in taking part in accreditation evaluations.  

    Santa Clarita Director Of Public Works Recognized As The 2013 Leader Of The Year

     The City of Santa Clarita’s Director of Public Works, Robert Newman, was recently recognized as the 2013 Leader of the Year in the public sector category by the Southern California Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). 

    Newman was notified by a representative of the organization in early November and the Santa Clarita City Council recognized his accomplishment at the November 26, 2013 regular City Council meeting.  Newman will receive his award from the APWA at the 14th Annual Awards luncheon on Tuesday, December 10.

    Santa Clarita WorkSource Presents New Fast Track Program

    Job seekers interested in the fields of aerospace and biomedical manufacturing are invited to attend a FREE training program orientation at the Santa Clarita WorkSource Center on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The orientation will be held at the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, Room 107, located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road.  All job seekers are encouraged to arrive on or before 9:00 a.m.
