    District’s ‘Measure M’ Bond Measure In Full Financial Compliance

    The Santa Clarita Community College District’s Measure M community oversight committee has accepted the findings of an independent audit confirming that management of the college’s Measure M general obligation bond is in full compliance with all laws and accountability measures set forth by the legislature and mandated by California education code.

    Newhall School District Opens 2014-15 Transitional Kindergarten And Kindergarten Registration

    Enrollment packets for Newhall School District’s 2014-15 transitional kindergarten and kindergarten program will be available at Newhall School District schools on Monday, February 10, 2014. Children turning five years old between September 2 and December 2 of this year will be enrolled in transitional kindergarten and children turning five on or before September 1st of this year will enroll in kindergarten.

    Newhall Elementary To Host International Food Festival

    The Newhall Elementary School PTA is hosting an International Food Festival.  Parents and students are invited to taste foods from around the world. The event will be at the Newhall Elementary Cafeteria on February 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

    February, March and April are great months to visit your local Santa Clarita Public Library branch as all three facilities will feature engaging, interactive programming for readers of all ages.  The following events are free to the public and headed to a local library near you soon.  

    COC Art Gallery To Open 2014 With Japanese Inspired “Sam Erenberg: AWA”

    The College of the Canyons Art Gallery will present a series of Japanese inspired watercolor and oil paintings produced by renowned Southern California-based artist Sam Erenberg, as the first exhibition of the spring 2014 semester.

    Having enjoyed a long and successful career as an abstract artist, painter and filmmaker, Erenberg has been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Central America, with his works included in numerous collections across the globe.

    City of Santa Clarita's Building And Safety Division Hosts Building Code Workshops

    he City of Santa Clarita’s Building and Safety Division will host a series of FREE workshops for architects, engineers, designers, contractors and developers to review the key changes made to the California Building Codes and local amendments. Attendees will gain an understanding of how the 2013 building codes will affect the design and construction of both residential and non-residential new buildings, additions, alterations and tenant improvements. 

    COC Theatre Department Casting For Trio Of Spring Productions

    With nearly 40 roles available, students and community members are invited to audition their talents for a chance to be featured in the casts of three upcoming COC theatre department productions.

    The COC theatre department’s spring lineup includes productions of “Mr. Marmalade” and “Rent” as well as a collection of original works selected for inclusion in the college’s annual New Works Festival (NWF).

    In all, there will be approximately 40 roles available for actors between the ages of 18 and 35.

    COC Hotel And Restaurant Students Get Hands-On Experience At Hyatt Regency

    If the general manager of a local upscale hotel and restaurant asked for your professional opinion on how to improve the atmosphere and appeal of its featured eatery, how would you respond?

    For the group of five College of the Canyons Hotel & Restaurant Management students who were posed this complicated question, the response was altogether well researched, logically organized and professionally presented.

    Santa Clarita Hosts International Young Authors and Artists Exhibit

    The City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Sister Cities Program will host a unique display of art and literary works of students from all over the United States and abroad.  This exhibit features the winners and finalists of Sister Cities International’s (SCI) Young Authors and Artists Showcase 2013.  It is touring the United States for a year and Santa Clarita is proud to sponsor this exhibit in the Valencia Library Community Room from January 23 to February 20, 2014

    Community College Priority Registration To Change In 2014

    Beginning in 2014, College of the Canyons and the entire 112-campus California Community College System will introduce changes to the state’s current priority registration guidelines, in an effort to ensure that all students have fair access to classes.

    The new regulations, which take effect in fall 2014, will continue to reward students who are making progress toward their academic and career goals, while also granting priority registration status to some first-time students.
