    White Ribbon Campaign Kicks Off In The Santa Clarita Valley

    The City of Santa Clarita and several community partners are encouraging graduating seniors to wear a white ribbon on graduation day as part of the White Ribbon Campaign, which raises awareness about the importance of driving safe and making it home alive this graduation season.

    Santa Clarita Valley Schools Earn Statewide Honors For Helping Students

    Two local schools were chosen from thousands across California for recognition Tuesday.

    McGrath Elementary in the Newhall School District and Rio Vista Elementary in the Saugus Union School District were chosen by state Superintendant Tom Torlakson, school officials said Tuesday.

    Castaic Middle School Wins Top Award At Student Television Convention

    This year’s crew of CMStv students received multiple accolades once again at the annual Student Television Network Convention at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Castaic Middle School’s team of future broadcasters brought home awards in seven of the eight middle school categories including the biggest award of the evening, the “Excellence Award” for Best Middle School Broadcast Program in the nation.

    Local Job Seekers Invited To COC Resume Rally

    College of the Canyons Career Services will host a pair of Resume Rally events to help students and community members create, enhance and fine-tune their professional resumes in advance of the college’s two upcoming Job & Career Fairs.

    Resume Rally attendees will be able to meet with professionals who can provide tips and pointers about how to make a resume and cover letter stand out during the job search and application process.

    Local Photographers Invited To Compete In Quarterly City Photo Contest

    Community members are invited to submit their favorite local snapshots for the City of Santa Clarita’s quarterly photography contest.  The spring contest is currently underway and new submissions must be received by March 31, 2013 to qualify for a variety of cash prizes.  

    Prominent Public Art Piece To Be featured In The Newhall Roundabout

     

    The City of Santa Clarita is offering community members an opportunity to be part of Old Town Newhall’s heritage as a sponsor for the new iconic, public art project, which will be featured inside the Newhall Roundabout at the intersection of Main Street.

    The area will be adorned with sizeable boulders with storyboards as well as plaques bearing the names of agencies, businesses and individuals who make the public art possible through donations. 

    COC Scholarly Presentation To Examine ‘The U.S. In The Middle East’

    College of the Canyons professor, activist and scholar Dr. Ali Akbar Mahdi will present a sociological analysis of the century long history of political challenges, regional crises and ongoing hostilities associated with United States interests in the region, during the spring 2013 Scholarly Presentation “The U.S. in the Middle East: A Century of Friendship and Hostility,” taking place April 17, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center (PAC).

    Local Students Invited To Participate In COC Environmental Science Fair

    Elementary, junior high, and high school students from across the Santa Clarita Valley will have an opportunity to win a prize by presenting their environmentally themed science projects to the community, during the fourth annual COC Environmental Science Fair being held Wednesday, April 10.

    Residents And Businesses Can Have All Their Tax Questions Answered

     

    The City of Santa Clarita Public Library invites residents and businesses to a series of Tax Talks, happening Wednesday, March 13 through Thursday, March 28, 2013 at all three branches, including the Canyon Country, Newhall and Valencia Library.    

    In partnership with H&R Block, the workshops will help residents learn about the new tax laws and the benefits they can provide to community members and businesses.

    Peachland School Kindergarten Class Wins $10,000 Prize For Writing

    Merrilee Bingham’s kindergartners at PeachlandSchool learned the value of writing in a big way when they were recently notified that they had won the grand prize in the LYSOL® Brand/Scholastic Healthy Habits Story Writing Contest. Their efforts brought the $10,000 grand prize to the school.
