SCV To Gather For "Evening Of Remembrance"
Young lives will be remembered at the Youth Grove on Wednesday, April 16, 2008.
The City of Santa Clarita will host the 3rd Annual “Evening of Remembrance” on Wednesday, April 16 from 7:20 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Youth Grove in Central Park. The “Evening of Remembrance” is meant to remember Santa Clarita Valley youth who have died in traffic-related incidents, as well as raise community awareness about the importance of safe and responsible driving.
The program’s highlight is the reading of the names of the 71 Santa Clarita Valley youth who are currently represented at the Youth Grove. The event is free and open to the public.
“By having this ‘Evening of Remembrance,’ we have the opportunity to remember the young ones that we have lost to traffic accidents, and reflect upon the fatal consequences of irresponsible driving,” commented Councilmember Frank Ferry who has spearheaded the Youth Grove project.
The half acre-memorial features individual pillars that mimic cut tree stumps, each representing a young life cut short on the road. The pillars surround a central monument featuring the “KNOW MORE” vow urging the community to “KNOW MORE” about safe driving habits, and to pledge that “NO MORE” young lives will be lost from drinking and driving, or from reckless and irresponsible choices.
Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road. For more information on the “Evening of Remembrance” event or the Youth Grove, please call Tess Simgen, Community Services Analyst, at (661) 255-4956 or visit www.santa-clarita.com.
