Saugus Girls Soccer Team In CIF Championship Game
Centurions will play Harvard-Westlake in Division II final.
The Saugus girls soccer team is in the CIF Southern Section Division II championship game after downing Redlands, 2-1, Tuesday.
Erin Ortega and Jamie Molacek provided the offense, scoring the goals for Saugus. Shasta Fisher had an assist.
It was another big game for Ortega. She scored her second goal in as many games. Against Crescenta Valley in the quarterfinals, Ortega scored the only goal in a 1-0 shutout.
Molacek’s goal was her second of the playoffs. She scored one of the eight goals against Highland in the first round.
Saugus will face Harvard-Westlake, 2-1 winners over Yucaipa, in the championship game.
In college hockey, the College of the Canyons open the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III national championship tournament against Albany today in Rochester, N.Y. COC has the fourth seeded and is the only team from California in the 16-team tournament.
In college baseball, the College of the Canyons pounded out five home runs in a 21-5 win over West L.A. College. Trevor Bloom hit two homers, including a grand slam in the eighth inning.
In college softball, Lauren Rose hit a lead-off home run, but the College of the Canyons lost 5-2 to Moorpark College.
