Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association Announces Formation

Sponsored By:

New youth sports association to have football, rugby, track and field, and lacrosse.

Several Santa Clarita Valley youth sports organizations have aligned to form the Santa Clarita Youth Sports Association.  The SCYSA is comprised of non-profit organizations that share the common goals of Sportsmanship, Character and Family in the pursuit of excellence on and off the field of play.  Sports offered include Tackle Football, Cheer, Lacrosse, Rugby and Track & Field.

Charter members of the SCYSA include the Santa Clarita Wildcats, Santa Clarita Grizzlies, SCV Lacrosse, SC Youth Rugby and Phenom Athletics.  Representatives of these elite organizations have embraced the opportunity to combine their resources for the advancement of youth sports in the Santa Clarita Valley.

SC Wildcat/Grizzly President, James McGoldrick, stated, “The SCYSA has brought together these complimentary sports organizations to support each other and further their collective goals of creating a positive environment for young athletes and their families.  This alliance will benefit all who participate with the member groups.”

SCV Lacrosse Commissioner Steve Tyson added, "To finally be involved with like minded coaches is a breath of fresh air.  SCYSA has created an umbrella organization that sports programs can be proud to be a part of.  An organization with the philosophy of nurturing youth to be successful young adults as well as athletes goes beyond teaching sportsmanship. This fits well with lacrosse tradition and the SCV Lacrosse mission."

SC Youth Rugby President Michael Yauch expressed, “We are proud to join the SCYSA. The organizations represented collectively share the principles of positive coaching.  We all want to build an environment that builds character in youth competition. We honor the games we compete in respecting the rules, our opponents, officials, teammates and oneself.

Phenom Athletics President, David Joseph, shared, “The uniting of multiple sports entities through the SCYSA will catapult our youth into a higher dimension of athleticism, education and broadened self esteem.  This enhancement and development of our youth will advance our future!

Families that participate in SCYSA organizations will be assured their children are engaged in an athletic environment that promotes positive coaching, stresses scholastic achievement and instills respect towards parents, teachers, peers and self.
