Super Bowl Events in Santa Clarita

This John Garrecht’s plan at least. A Canyon Country resident of 34 years, he will be spending the day at Route 66 Classic Grill, a place he goes to so often he won’t need to bring friends, he’ll run into them when he walks in the front door.

“I’m too much of a regular, my elbow prints are on their tables,” he said.

Although he will be routing for Seattle, he said he won’t be mad if they don’t win. The day is more about enjoying yourself.

Santa Clarita residents Gus Chavez and Ivy Luu have a cost saving, safe and fun suggestion – a barbeque.

Chavez invited friends and family to his house, where they’ll enjoy burgers and his wife’s homemade five layer dip.

Although he is looking forward to the game, he said the day will be low-key.

“If it were the Cowboys we’d have a party, but no ones team is playing,” Chavez said.

But this won’t affect his 2-year-old sons interest, however.

“He gets into it, but only in bursts, like when we scream ‘touch down,’” Chavez said.

While many are looking forward to watching the game, there may be an equal number that are just excited to see the people they love.

“The family gets together at someones house, usually my brother-in-laws because he has a big screen TV, we cook asada and have beer,” Luu said.

Luu is looking forward to a big family get-together, but you won’t see her cheering for one team in particular.

“I just go along with the family,”  she said. “I’m not a sports person, I’ll be in the kitchen.”

And have you ever wondered how the USA Gasoline mascot will be celebrating?

That’s the guy in a Statue of Liberty costume who is always waving to cars and dancing on the corner of  Soledad Canyon Road and Whites Canyon Road.

Davin Smith shrugged his shoulders when asked and simply responded, “just partying.”

Play hard but safe during Super Bowl weekend

Deputy Joshua Dubin with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Crime Prevention Unit said:

If you’re attending a Super Bowl party or watching the game at a sports bar or restaurant:

Designate your sober driver before the party begins.

Avoid drinking too much alcohol too fast. Pace yourself. Eat plenty of food, take breaks, and alternate with non-alcoholic drinks.

Keep track of how much you have had to drink

If you’re hosting a Super Bowl party:

Make sure all of your guests designate their sober drivers in advance, or help arrange ride-sharing with sober drivers.

Serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages at the party.

Keep the phone numbers of local cab companies on hand and take the keys away from anyone who is thinking of driving drunk.

If an underage person drinks and drives, the parent may be legally liable for any damage, injury or death caused by the underage driver.

And always buckle up. It’s still your best defense against other drunk drivers.
