Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 29, 2014

The Valencia football team shut out Santa Monica on the road, 35-0, and improved to 3-1.

Jay Jay Wilson scored two rushing touchdowns for Valencia, the No. 4 team in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division.

Valencia quarterback Cole Parkinson threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

In other action in the Foothill League, the Hart football team beat Santiago Corona, 57-35, scoring 26 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Hart quarterback Brady White tied his own school record with seven touchdown passes.

Running back Nelson James rushed for 201 yards and caught three touchdown passes.

Hart is the No. 8 team in the Southern Section West Valley Division and improved to 3-2.

The Golden Valley football team made a little history. The Grizzlies blanked Hawthorne, 28-0, and recorded the first shutout in school history.

Shane Tamura rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Golden Valley improved to 2-2.

The West Ranch football team lost to Oxnard, 28-21, at Valencia High School.

Brendan Moskal caught two touchdowns passes for West Ranch. The Wildcats dropped to 2-3.

 The Canyon football team lost to St. Francis, 49-32. Liam Cabrera caught nine passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns.

Canyon dropped to 2-3.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team beat Animo Robinson, 46-14, at Saugus High School.

Trinity is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division 2 8-man poll. The Knights improved to 3-1.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team lost to Cleveland of Reseda, 37-21. The Cardinals dropped to 2-3.

The Albert Einstein Academy football team lost to California Lutheran, 42-14.

In college football, the College of the Canyons lost to Pasadena City College, 20-12. COC dropped to 1-3.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the Rockies, 10-5, in the regular season finale.

Zack Greinke won his 17th game of the season, a career high. The Dodgers ended the regular season with a five-game winning streak.

The playoffs are set. The American League Wild-Card game is on Tuesday with the Oakland A’s against the Kansas City Royals.

The National League Wild-Card game is the San Francisco Giants against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.

The Dodgers will play the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday in the National League Division Series.
