Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 22, 2014

The Canyon football team beat Burbank, 35-21, and won its second game in a row.

Canyon running back Myron McAfee rushed for 199 yards and two touchdowns.

Canyon improved to 2-2. Burbank lost for the first time this season and dropped to 2-1.

Valencia and Hart won their football games on Friday night.

Saugus and West Ranch lost their games.

Valencia crushed visiting Highland, 49-12, and won its second game of the season. The Vikings came into the game ranked No. 3 in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division.

Hart beat Muir, 40-7, and evened its record at 2-2. Hart is ranked No. 9 in the Southern Section West Valley Division.

The Saugus football team lost to visiting Ventura, 48-14, at College of the Canyons. Ventura outscored Saugus, 28-0, in the second half.

Saugus dropped to 1-3. Ventura improved to 4-0 and stayed undefeated.

The West Ranch football team lost to Thousand Oaks, 35-0.

West Ranch dropped to 2-2. Thousand Oaks is undefeated at 3-0.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team beat Lancaster Baptist, 37-28. Trinity trailed, 28-22, in the fourth quarter, but scored two touchdowns to win the game.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team lost to Boron, 34-33, at College of the Canyons.

In college football, College of the Canyons beat Santa Ana College, 31-10, and won its first game of the season. COC improved to 1-2.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the Cubs, 8-5, using a pitching staff by committee.

The Dodgers took three of four games against the Cubs. They have a 4 ½ game lead over the Giants in the National League West standings.
