Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 11, 2014

The West Ranch girls golf team won the first Foothill League match of the season at Elkins Ranch in Fillmore.

The West Ranch girls won the match by 15 strokes over Golden Valley. Three West Ranch golfers finished in the top-five.

Elisa Pierra from Golden Valley shot the low round of the day, a 1-under 35. Ashley Mayhall and Mack Bailey from West Ranch tied for second place with 2-over 38s.

Kate Caffrey from West Ranch and Junstine Reblando from Golden Valley tied for fourth with 6-over 42s.

In high school tennis, the Valencia girls beat Westlake, 12-6, and improved to 3-0 to start the season.

In high school volleyball, the Hart girls swept Burroughs from Burbank, 3-0, and won their first match of the season.

Amy McKee had nine kills to lead Hart. The Indians are 1-1.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls lost to Grace Brethren, 3-1, and dropped to 1-1.

The Trinity Classical Academy girls lost to Oakwood, 3-0. Trinity is 0-2.

In the major leagues, the Dodger shut out the visiting Padres, 4-0. Carl Crawford was 4-for-4 and drove in two runs.

They have the day off today. The Dodgers start a weekend series against the Giants in San Francisco on Friday night.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
