Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 08, 2014

It was another rough weekend for high school football teams from the Foothill League.

Valencia was the only team to win on Friday night.

The rest of the teams went a combined 0-5. Hart, Canyon and Saugus are a combined 0-6 after the first two weeks of the season.

The Vikings beat visiting Palmdale, 44-21. Quarterback Cole Parkinson threw for three touchdowns and 280 yards in his first start.

Valencia, the No. 6 team in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division poll, won its season opener.

Hart lost to Chaminade, 44-21, and dropped to 0-2. Hart was ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division. That will definitely change this week.

Golden Valley lost to Royal from Simi Valley, 29-14. The Grizzlies lost their first game of the season. They won their season opener two weeks ago.

West Ranch lost to Sierra Canyon, 35-6. The Wildcats dropped to 1-1.

Canyon lost on the road to Thousand Oaks, 45-40. Canyon quarterback Miles Fallin was intercepted in the end zone with 16 seconds to play in the game, stopping the potential game-winning drive.

Saugus lost to Newbury Park, 44-36. Saugus running back Troy Williams had a big night with 246 yards and two touchdowns. But it wasn’t enough to keep Saugus from dropping to 0-2.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team started its season with a 36-28 loss to Kings Christian in Lemoore.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team lost to Malibu, 34-6. The Cardinals lost their first game of the season.

It wasn’t much better for the College of the Canyons football team. The Cougars lost their season opener, 42-19, to Mt. San Antonio College.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, 7-2. Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs and the Dodgers swept the Diamondbacks. They have won four of the past five games.

The Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres tonight at the Ravine. Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers. He is going for his 18th win of the season.

Odrisamer Despaigne starts for the Padres.
